ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER -- "The Roman elegiac poet Sextus Propertius rendered the earliest form of this saying in Elegies (c. 26 B.C.) as 'Always toward absent lovers love's tide stronger flows.'...The modern wording...appeared as the opening line of an anonymous English poem in 1602, but it was the British songwriter Thomas Haynes Bayly's book 'Isle of Beauty' (1850) that helped make it a popular sentiment in the Victorian drawing rooms of the day." A.
In internship (as I understand it) you're going to learn a lot, start to face the real world and the real people working in it. So I think the quote says you shouldn't feel bad if you get sort of intimidated during your first days: getting acquainted with the tasks assigned, some people you'll know can be nice to you, some can be kind of rude...and some can be 100% jerks. It happens to us all, so put every bit of effort you have and be successful in it. Best wishes....(Answered by etercap)

A.
Does evil exist? The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!" "God created everything? The professor asked. "Yes sir", the student replied. The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth. Another ...(Answered by Maven)

I dote on his very absence?
what does that mean? ... (Asked by naniiS)
View Entire Question | Report Abuse | Similar Questions | See it in Y!
A.
This is meant to be a funny way of saying "I don't enjoy his company" or "I don't particularly like him." It's satirical, because a much more likely phrase would be "I dote on his very presence." That would mean that I like him a lot and feel good just because he's around. So when you say "I dote on his very absence," you're conveying the opposite of that sentiment....(Answered by Steve D)
