Q.
Homeschooling Special Needs Child in Southern California?
Hello, I work with a family (I'm the home health aide and also the one on one aide for school) who has a disabled little girl who is seven years old. She has autism, severe develpmental delay, seizure disorder, vision problems, heart problems, bleeding disoder, non-verbal, sensory processing disorder, etc. Her family is having a very hard time finding an appropriate classroom for her to be in. The closest thing we have found right now is a county program where she has to be on the bus an hour each way. She lives in the walnut district, but that district ... (Asked by littledeaftink)

You wrote--Her family is having a very hard time finding an appropriate classroom for her to be in. The closest thing we have found right now is a county program where she has to be on the bus an hour each way. Is the family trying to get help on their own, or is the school helping them? surely this child is in special ed and it is the schools responsibility to follow federal special ed laws and provide what this child needs, free of charge for the parents. you wrote-She lives in the walnut district, but that district has no low ...(Answered by jdeekdee)

Don't be afraid to use the shift key when typing uppercase letters: >>How can I become a better teacher's aide?<< Seriously, little things such as this might play a role in how you approach your job. If you're perfectly willing to bypass such *seemingly* "small" details here, you might also allow yourself to do it when you *definitely* shouldn't. If you're trying to help teach children, you shouldn't even implicitly convey the attitude that it's OK to take shortcuts....(Answered by wheezer_april_4th_1966)

You don't specify where you are in NY, so I can't give more specific suggestions than these. I'm assuming you're in the city, which has a VAST amount of resources, so which boro you're in would help us help you. Whichever Audiologist you consult should have additional resources for you. http://www.thecityofnewyorkcity.com/hearingaid/index.html http://www.lhh.org/ New York League for the Hard of Hearing has Audiology and Hearing Aid services, as well as job placement. This is going to be widely variable, depending on where you work, your employer, your level of training and experience, etc. The same is true of teacher's salaries - if you asked how much a teacher earns, there could literally be a range from $20,000 to $80,000 or more. An inclusion aide generally earns somewhere between minimum wage and double that sum. My husband is an inclusion aide in northern California, where the minimum wage is currently $7.50 an hour, and he earns $14 an hour after 3 years with the same employer and many years of prior experience....(Answered by sonomanona)

Well it just depends on the level of severity of the disability. SOme classes are designed for mild mental retardation, some are moderate retardation and others are set up for severe retardation. If you are worried about taking kids to the bathroom...I would not go into a moderate or severe classroom. In a MIMD(mild) classroom some of the duties would be to help studnets who need one on one work, help the teacher with some of the filing, reinforce behavior, give verbal cues. There are also other types of special education classes that would not require you to ...(Answered by alybr)

We interview every year for new aides. Some of the questions might be: Do you read or write another language besides English? How much experience have you had with computers and technology? Do you prefer clerical work or working directly with children? Is there an age range of student with which you feel most comfortable? If you were having difficulties with a child( academic or behavior) how would you handle it? If a child hit you, what would you do? If we are interviewing for a specific job, we might ask questions tailored for a specific job. Good luck....(Answered by bizime)
