Q.
How do I keep going to class???
My teacher is just a horrible teacher and she does not know what she is doing! She "teaches" my AP English Literature class, but disagrees with the AP. Therefore, we have not prepared very well for the AP test. She said that she liked the multiple choice part of the exam, but we've done only 2 practices on it! Today she assigned 2+ hours of homework (4 paragraphs of writing and 3 chapters of reading) out of the blue! I talked to my friend in AP literature (the teacher, by the way, is really great), ... Talk to a counselor for advice. Don't go to other teachers asking them to talk to the problem teacher, as that would just cause problems for you. You and the rest of your class (or as many as you can get) should go to the school counselor (there's strength in numbers). Tell the counselor what you said here--the teacher "disagrees with the AP" and that you do not feel prepared for the AP test. List the problems you have with the class and teacher (do not get personal on this; keep it based on just her teaching skills/abilities) and give valid ...(Answered by sopapilla1985)

Q.
Is it fair for teachers to assign homework over a vacation as much as they would if school was in session?
Are school vacations for teacher or students or both? I feel like my teachers think it is only their vacation and they can throw as much homework at us as they wish with no regard to the plans their students may have. To Kaliroadrager- No need to get nasty. I do not think you read my question entirely. I am not whining. I am simply wondering if this treatment is fair and if it is, why. Some of the responses so far have allowed me to see it from a teacher's perspective. Thank you. ... (Asked by BEN GEE)

i think it is fair sometimes, but depending on how much hw you get because: -It stops you forgetting everything you've been taught before the holidays -Its not any better for the teachers because they'll have to mark it all afterwards -Most teachers will give you extra time to finish hw if you tell them you have plans- eg going on holiday BUT -you need to have some time to relax, so getting lots of huge hws over the holidays is unfair i was lucky this time: i've only got 1 small bit of bio hw for now, but apparently, we have to do loads of ...(Answered by Aleeece)

My boyfriend, his son and I are moving next month, right before his son starts kindergarten, and we would like him to attend a particular school. when I phoned the school to ask where we would have to live to be assigned to that school, all she could tell me is that each street is assigned to a certain school, but she could not tell me which streets are assigned to that school. Q.
Am I in the right to "complain" to my daughter's teacher about her excessive homework?
She is a 6th grade student in an excellent Charter School. Her individual teachers assign her 20 -30 minute homework assignments which add up to well over an 1 1/2 of homework when combined. On weekends she is doing about 2 hours plus another 2 on a year long project they were each assigned. She is very studious and does her work, but I am worried about her burning out. She should really enjoy the time she has now because we all know it doesn't get any easier as you grow up. At the year end conference, I was ... (Asked by bjmarchini)

Most deifinetely talk to the teachers. a 6 grtade student should have about 60 minute of homework a night, and if the school has a reading program where the kids have to read 1/2 hour a day, this time should be included. However, these calculations are for a public school. If you are paying for a private school, the teachers may expect the students to do more, and the parents to be more involved. As for homework on the weekends, once you get past 5th grade you almost always have it. It's not a huge deal, but no more than you ...(Answered by Dressage Queen)

Students learn much more when they go to different sources and research & gather information themselves as opposed to the teacher spoon-feeding them. Moreover, most of the times, researching about a topic is more fun for students. Therefore, it's an effective way for students to learn something new. As a similar example, consider the following. Why should secondary school science teachers assign Practical Experiments to students? - Firstly, it's a lot more fun as opposed to studying from the textbook/notes only. - Secondly, We tend to remember the things we discvoer ON OUR OWN as compared to the things WE ARE TAUGHT. ...(Answered by Aarica)

As I answer this question my son is in his room yelling to me that homework is pointless and stupid... His theory is that he does a lot of work in school... Which I agree... but I think a little homework is good for study habits later in life... And it will also help you do better in school and later in life. The teacher teaches you how to do things when you are in school. At the age of 9 and younger, homework pretty much is there to let the teacher know you understand the material you learned in ...(Answered by dreamin)

Q.
Why is each assigned report in middle school a major project?
My daughter is in 7th grade. Last year in sixth grade every time she was assigned a research report it was a major project that involved buying project board and ink for my color printer because they require pictures. Now I'm seeing it again in 7th grade. Also, these kids are not allowed to bring the projects on the bus so I have to drive her to and from school on those days. I never had to do this type of thing in school when I was a kid - not even high school (or college for that matter). And ... (Asked by AlongthePemi)

My son had a handful of those projects as well. It felt more like I was the one with this assignment with all the crap that was needed to put it together. And like you, I had to drive him to school when it was time to bring the project in. I didn't have to do this kind of stuff in grade school. And in HS the most I had to do is one major project. The rest of my "projects" were written reports/oral reports with maybe a small poster or something along those lines. ...(Answered by fiestyredhead)

No its not. There is nothing on the books that I am aware of. Granted there may be a school district or two out there for whom the policy holds true, but I doubt it. School is designed to prepare you and socialize you for the real world. Your boss is going to expect that you come back from vacation prepared to work and have completed all work necessary. You have a few hours at most. Break it up to a half hour per day and it'll be done before you know it....(Answered by goldenrae9)

As Eliza Doolittle starts off in the play as a flower-girl later transformed into a "lady" a good theme would be flowers - you could then incorporate development/growth/blossoming as ideas. Eliza's ambition initially is to work in a flower-shop. Flower motifs feature prominently in the costumes for "My Fair Lady", the musical version of "Pygmalion". I have included some links to give you some visual inspiration. Hope that helps....(Answered by iiitttsssaaadoozy mindless sprog)
