Q.
Need Associates Degree Fast!?
Ok so I am still in high school, but I am graduating early in January. I really want to get an associates degree as fast as I can after high school from a community college (like in 1 year or less) I would like to start taking classes while I'm in high school but you need a high school diploma to start and my school doesn't offer the chance to take classes at this particular college while still in high school. So, for all you out there that have an associates degree, is it possible to get mine ... (Asked by courtney77)

You could get in way over your head. A typical associate's degree is worth sixty or more credits and normally takes two years, or four semesters, if coursework is carefully planned and you are not required to take any developmental coursework (as determined by your college entrance examinations); otherwise, it could take even longer. A normal full-time load is 12-15 credits each semester. Some students are able to take a heavier course load, but before you decide to do so, consider how self-motivated you are and what your other obligations are (such as work or family). ...(Answered by Tonya H)

i want to be a graphic designer, but im not sure if i should go for my bachelors degree or associates degree. ive heard that an associates degree is all you need for this type of work and that its more about your skill and experience rather than what degree you have. altho, im sure a bachelors degree would look better. ... Less and less so. It can be a highly competiitve career and more and more companies won't even interview you unless you have BA and 6months - two years of experience. I'm recieving my BA in May and can easily say it was worth the two years on top of my associates. There is much more involved in design than creativity. You need to know about principles, elements, formatting and historical influences...etc. It also makes the transition in to the job market easier by teaching you about portfolio, presentation and how to bulid your own image....(Answered by kikib731)

I think the cost varies with what state you live in. In California for a community college it's $23 a unit with most classes being 3 or 4 units. Books run about $100 a class, that being said, it's not as much as a university. Not cheap, but still somewhat affordable. Look into getting a Board of Governers grant, it will cover your tuition minus a few fees (I paid $22 for 4 classes) and I had to buy the books. Even if you don't qualify for financial aid, sometimes you can qualify for this. ...(Answered by Liz)

An associates degree is certainly better than no college -- but it is meant as a stepping stone to a four year college. Continue your education. To put things in perspective -- what does an associate's degree mean. To answer this -- I have two questions: 1. What do they call someone who goes to a community college for two years? -- Someone with an associates degree. 2. What do they call someone who goes to Harvard for two years and leaves with a 4.0 average? A college dropout. What does this mean? It means that if you ...(Answered by Taranto)

It's tricky but extremely do-able. A.A. in Business Management degree have certain requirements, but you will also need to meet your transfer requirements for Pace University. the easiest way is put the requirements to graduate next to the transfer requirements and see if you can double count courses (for example can you take ACCT 100 to meet you business degree and as your transfer math degree?) This will help you make sure your not taking extra classes. And yes, you can most definitely complete a B.A in HRM in another two years. Have diligence, determination, and do ...(Answered by drdrewo)

Q.
Associates degree not a "real" college degree?
I work with someone who on occasion will talk about going to college. If I try to join in on the conversation I get told that they are talking about "real" college degrees - not something from a two year school. Can't you also get an Associates degree from some four year colleges? I am very offended as I paid almost $20,000 in student loans for my Associates degree. This two year "school" I graduated from is now starting to offer 4 year degrees. And yes, I'm going back! But my question is - ... (Asked by Elle)

I can give you some insight on my scenario. I have an Associate's in Business (focused on computer programming / software development). If I ignore my scholarships, the tuition I paid was about $22k. My career has more than made up for it. Basically, it all depends on the person. This is definitely a field where experience and knowledge play the biggest part. BS/MS are not must-haves. I earned my Associates from a tech school which I earned in 18 months (started 1 month after high school). I finished in 2003. I immediately began working for a help desk ...(Answered by apronk)

A.
A career diploma is usually unaccredited and an AD (associates degree) is accredited. ADs are usually given by community colleges and local universities (non profit). A career diploma is usually offered by a for profit business. Some career diplomas can be applied to a bachelor's depending on the credibility of the company (but not a guarantee). For example, a nursing diploma to receive an RN usually transfers towards a BSN (bachelor's of science in nusing). However, a regular old career diploma is usually not transferable because most universities that offer the bachelor's degree want credits ...(Answered by Lindsay C)

A lot of the medical fields will pay that much and more for an associates degree in the field. RNs, dental hygienists, etc. It is possible to get a job paying that much in the computer industry with just an associates or even less if you know what you are doing. Most people will not make $50k a year with just an associates degree unless they have many years of experience....(Answered by NGC6205)
