| I would send home a letter asking if any parents would like to volunteer to help for that activity. I did that as a second grade teacher, and there were usually a handful of parents that were always willing to come in and help. The parents like being included in the classroom every now and then, and the kids like it too....not to mention, it's free help! If that doesn't work, maybe you can ask teachers from older grade levels if you could borrow a few of their students for the activity....(Answered by ORDtoSXM) | |

A question about word walls in the classroom-Where to hang with limited space? I have mostly windows in my room and I am not complaining about that :) Then I have one long wall with a brand new white board and one wall for the children's jackets/book bags.. So I am left with one tiny side wall for the word wall and the listening center is along that wall as well as computers. I hang posters with words over the old chalkboard that stands on rollers in the room. I am wanting to figure out where to put more words since I have a huge collection that I ... | I had this exact problem when I taught 3rd grade (i'm a stay at home mom now). Is there any space below or above the white board? If not, you may not have a choice but to use one section of window to place your words. You could put black butcher paper over one section and they will stand out really well. Or: What about placing your word cards beneath the alphabet in your room? THis would be a great way to help in spelling and alphabetizing (to the first letter anyway)! It seems classrooms are never big enough ...(Answered by Ella May)

linguistic.word formation? David Crystal is a British professor of linguistics at Bangor University. He says: " I ran a competition to create a word for the feeling when you're in an airport standing by the carousel waiting for your bags, when everybody else seems to have picked their's up. The winner was someone who called in with the suggestion "baggonise". Can you possibly tell me what "baggonise" might mean and which word formation process (es) might be involved. ... | The appeal of this word stems from the fact that it rhymes with 'agonise' (or 'agonize' for American readers). You are agonising about your bags - so 'baggonise'. I'm not sure about the linguistic word formation processes - but presumably word association and 'wit'?...(Answered by Pipsqueak)

| Correct; 1) My bag is blue in color. This means that the color of your bag is blue. Also correct; 2) My bag is in blue color. This sentance makes sense...but it's not correct if you're describing a blue bag. It would mean that your bag is soaking IN blue color. The problem is, if you're describing a blue bag, you JUST said "My bag is in blue." or "My bag is blue." Either would mean that your bag is the color blue. If you said "My bag is in blue COLOR." and you are trying to say that your bag is ...(Answered by Lisa E) | |

How to catch a thief? I took some of my "dream club" kids of a field trip and had them keep their bags in my classroom. While we were away 2 iPods were stolen from the kids bags. The day it happened I had a sub for the last hour of the day and that is when it happened. The sub noticed two students in the back of the room going in their back packs but the kids say they were going through their own packs. I already lied and said the pricipal has reviewed the video of the servalence in the room and is ... (Asked by M W) |

| Sorry - you're out of luck. Unless they are dumb enough to pull them out in front of you, there is not much you can do. This is why so many schools say NO electronics. In our school, it wasn't the distraction so much as the theft issues. It can turn into a fight if they find out who, or just THINK they know who, took them. Then the parents want the school to pay for a $200 electronic item (or whatever price). I'd call the boy's homes and ask the parents if they have suddenly seen any ...(Answered by Ray M) | |

| I think I would have my parents write a note to her asking why.... And if she requests more put a note on it that its for students only. I had to buy $150 worth of school supplies for my son in an alabama public school and 1/2 the stuff was for the teacher's use.... Dry Erase markers, Copying paper etc. I also had to give a $100 donation. I pay taxes, it sucks that I don't get much out of them. Alabama is still at the bottom of the list for public schools....(Answered by Christy F) | |
