I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm in band and have attended 3 years of band camps. We don't sleep over anywhere so I don't know how that'll be but I can say you'll meet some great people. Everyone there will be going through the same thing as you are and that'll help you bond-- if you didn't know, band camp is mainly a bonding experience. And even if they aren't going through it now, the upperclassmen have gone through it before, so they might get upset but hopefully they'll remember how hard it was(is). Am i a total band geek, or do i just like music a lot? People have been calling me the "band geek" for about 3 years now! i play clarinet and tenor saxophone and i am learning how to play piano. i was in every 6th grade band group last year. i also did my career report on musicians. i listen to music every day. i have privet music lessons.and i am a jazz, classical, and concert musician. do u think i am a band geek or do i just have a love for music? ... a bit of both it seems - and that's definitely not a bad thing. two of my daughters are musicians. One plays 4 different instruments and can play anything that she hears even if only once. The other was in band (both concert and marching) from 5th grade until graduation from high school - went to college determined not to be in the band and guess what - she missed it!!! im in guard, so i have to go to band camp too. if you don't go, you might not get a spot in the marching show. at least thats how it is for us. i guess it depends on how important band is to you....(Answered by spinchick)

it's much better to be a part of a performing group than to be in study hall. most kids get really bored in study halls because they don't really feel like doing their work during the school day unless it's in a classroom and the teacher has offered them the time to complete the work in class or do it for homework. singing and playing instruments in an ensemble can be very rewarding but they do involve committment. you need to be responsible to the performing organization in a way that shows you are really in it, not just taking up ...(Answered by ndyou)

Why do people think the band is stupid? band is one of the coolest things you could do in high school, if you like it, you get to play an intrument and get a good great. But people that don't know anything about it thinks its stupid cause we wear what they think stupid outfits, (which I think are awesome) I either think they were in band at one time, and think that all we do is playing the insturment, and that people in band are totally different people (not a family), like it was in middle school. and they still think its stupid, the exact smae thing ... Band was the best part of my high school experience. I have had the privilege to be in a band consisting of 40 members or so to a band well over 180. Small bands have a certain family feeling to them. You know everyone in the band and usually get along great with them. Then on the bigger side of things the bigger band I was in was amazing. And what if i weare a band-aid on my face for the rest of my life? I had an accident that left me an everlasting scar. The thing is it is not a normal scar is a scar that changes my face a lot, its a scar in a bone. Well i noticed that if i cover it with a little band aid i look just like before and i feel much better when i go out, it uppers my self estime. Should I do marching band next year for high school? I am right now a freshman in high school. I am scheduled to take band next year, and if you take band, you must take marching band. However, i hate both so much. But I'm worried about dropping it because of college. What do you think? Have any ideas for fund-raising for a HS marching Band? Other band boosters please respond.? I am a marching band parent in a rural area and our band is almost always low on funds. As a fellow band kid I have been a part of several fundraisers. The ones that we have done are: Cookie Dough Pie Coffee Random stuff. We go through Great American something. I know it starts with Great American. You can pretty much sell anything you want through those guys. That way if cookie dough won't sell in your area you can sell other things. Other idea: At my school we just hosted a Rock-A-Thon to raise money for Darfur (region in Sudan, mass genocide...google it if you don't know about it).
