Q.
Teacher - Student Relationship?
....No I don't mean the romantic view Okay, so does it matter what the teacher thinks of you? I mean what if they expect so much of you that you know you're this A-student and just this person who wouldn't do any mistakes ( like cheating or get into fights ). Should reputation and what they think of you matter? Because our class had a test yesterday and the one who was in the class was a substitute. Everyone took advantage and started talking. As if that wasn't enough, the class is in IB (International Baccalaureate). I really don't know whether to ... (Asked by MagicFlakes)

Of course it matters what the teacher thinks of you. There are many bright criminals in this world! As a teacher, I would advise you to tell the teacher what happened, and how badly you felt about it. She probably knows a bit about you to measure the accuracy of the rest of the story. Teachers all know the sub game, anyway!...(Answered by tampamar)

Q.
A poor teacher's problem...?
Hi guys, I am asking this question on behalf of my friend. She asked me for advice, but I would appreciate your views on this. My friend, A is facing problems managing her classes of 16 year olds. She is soft-natured and hardly raises her voice. Students are not afraid of her. Her classes are usually noisy and students like to ask her questions on her personal life. When she punishes them by asking them to stand up in class, they do so but they still talk while standing up. A also finds out recently that some students have complained to ... Sounds like she is going to have to take back control of this class. Your friend is not alone this happens to many teachers-particularly people just beginning their career. First and foremost she just has to remember that it is her classroom and ultimately she is in charge. When students ask her personal or irrelevant questions she can simply say something like, "that question is inappropriate" or "this is the wrong time." She should not engage the students by answering their questions. Your friend will have to figure out what works best for her, and what she ...(Answered by naplady)

Q.
Where to go for ESL teachers who are in their 60s?
I'm asking this on behalf of someone who is over 60 and currently teaching ESL in China. My question is - where can someone that age go in the world to teach English? The problem seems to be common amongst people. She can't retire back to the Western country she's from but wherever she looks at ESL positions they stipulate age restrictions like "must be under 30" or "must be under 40". Although I'm only in my early thirties, it irritates me that there is a belief that you're too old to teach. Does anyone who ... (Asked by nature_guy)

I'm an ESL teacher in Croatia. They're starving for native speakers here. The cost of living is low, and the jobs are plentiful. It's worth a look if your colleague is interested in teaching in Europe. Word of warning: Avoid the local Berlitz in Zagreb, the rest of the schools are great....(Answered by Shotten)
