| I'm 54, almost 55, and I can tell you that the belt I got on my butt did me so much good it's incredible. Not that I'm the most "likeable" guy in the world, and not that I still didn't grow up breaking more rules than I'd've liked to as I look back, but just think what I could've been like had someone, the greatest man I ever knew: my dad, not taken the belt or his big hand to my butt and let me know just how wrong he thought my behaviors were. You and I, sir, ...(Answered by Randy D) | |

Would you agree with this idea? The recent question about why people homeschool had me with far more words than I felt I should express because what I did express already took up a lot of room. What I felt as I was writing my answer was that school has a culture all its own. Each grade level is practically a culture all its own. They have their own dialect, their own clothes, their own music, behaviours, attitudes... And it's all just kids directing it all, influenced by the media and advertising and what they think everybody else is doing. I don't want my children to grow up ... (Asked by glurpy) |

| Actually, the question of classroom culture would make an interesting PhD dissertation. As a former teacher, it was readily apparent to me that each classroom in the school had its own culture, and that culture was influenced by a number of factors, primarily the actions and attitudes of the teacher, but also by the attitudes and actions brought into the classroom by the students. And, just as each classroom is a microcosm, so is each school, and individual schools across the city, although administered by a single school board, are truly individual and have their own character. It is interesting ...(Answered by old lady) | |

| You have the politically correct, limp-noodle parents that issue "time-outs" instead of an azz-thrashing to blame. Kids don't learn respect by being talked to, they learn it from a hand to the azz. Back in the good ol' days, your neighbors would even spank you. Schools would whack your knuckles or use a big paddle. But now? Parents feel that their kids are "special"...Uh no, they are not. They need discipline in the form of corporal punishment...PERIOD! Good question....(Answered by joe b) | |

Should I Homeschool, do you? My son is 8. You can see my previous question about him. He does well in school but there are drugs in the school. And sexual situtations too, he's 8. He wants to be home schooled and he's damn sure not going to the local Jr. High when it starts! He wants to be taught at home. Okay, do not start on me about the social skills, there are local play groups for homeschooled children in my area. The district here is really poor, and bad so a lot of people are choosing home schools. He ... (Asked by musicpanther67) |

| I think you know the answer to your question about whether or not you are going to homeschool :) Which state are you in? Stop by a state homeschool conference. You will leave with a very good idea of what you are going to do. I homeschool my children. They have never been to school. I have a somewhat unorthodox view of education, so it's hard to explain how we do it here. You can read my blog if you want to know more details about what we do and why. We enjoy it very much. We just enjoy life very much. And ...(Answered by TammyT) | |

| I think alot of it has to do with todays society viewing spanking or phsically punishing your child as "Abuse" everyone thinks you should "talk it out" or take some sort of relaxed approached like go in time out or sit in your room, which is bull... when i did something wrong i got spanked with a belt or told to go pick a switch... and if i did the same thing wrong again the punishment was more spankings... you learn quick not to do that again... everyone is too judgemental of other peoples business and it gets out of ...(Answered by BeachLvr2006) | |
