What's the truth on Melissa Busekros? I'm reading that she was put in a psych ward by the German govt because she likes homeschooling - they diagnosed her with school phobia. I can only find articles on this on minor publications that have a right-wing bias, so I'm looking for mainstream sources or original documents to confirm. ... (Asked by t jefferson) |

| At last call...she was still under the social office custody...in some kind of family home in the region. Traditionally....the social office has a home or two in each community where up to a dozen kids may stay where there are issues in the family. The amusing thing in this case is that this is the first case anyone can remember where the kid was not in trouble and not in a direct fight with the family. The judge handling the episode has bent over backwards on some occassions and tried to be more favorable with the family....but ...(Answered by pepsionice) | |

What do you know about home-school? Biases and generalizations are a strong part of our society. It is too easy to hold opinions that stereo-type others. "Home-schooling" means something different to every person that will answer the question. What is your answer? I am a mother to 4 home-educated students. 2 are now adults and 2 will soon be adults. If you know them personally then I'm sure you can tell me what you know. But if you don't know them please don't give them labels such as: Misfit, Social outcast, Ignorant; Sheltered; Troubled; etc.... I know hundreds and ... (Asked by Barb) |

| I was home-schooled from 4Th grade until I graduated. When I started Algebra 1 my mom took me to a public school after hours to one of the math teachers there and he taught me math. At first he said that he didn't want to because he thought home-schooling was wrong. He said that he would do it for a couple of weeks and then decide if he would continue. After two weeks he told my mom that I learned faster and had better retention than any of his other students. Not bragging but it actually taught me good work ...(Answered by Bryce R) | |

| A. | |
| A bias can be shown by how a piece is worded: Does it use inflamatory language; i.e., the "terrible" war, the "poor" terrorists, etc. show that the source is stating an opinion and not the facts. Calling someone "gay" may show a bias towards homosexuality ( I know many women with that name) or calling someone "pro-abortion" instead of "pro-choice." One is biased against abortion and one is pro-killing. The source itself can usually be determined as having a bias, such as Time magazine (usually liberal) or World magazine (usually conservative). There are certain institutions that may help you determine a ...(Answered by abiquamom) | |

Why do people think all homeschoolers are social catastrophes? The kids who were breastfed until age 9 and have only ever read the Bible are screwed up, but they're screwed up because their parents are screwed up. If they were in school, they could get away with less, but a child is a product of their parents. I know a few screw ups myself -really, really scary cases of messed up parenting- but I'm homeschooled, all my friends but one are homeschooled, and they're all well-adjusted. We're a bit weird, my friends, but people are so BIASED. People think I'm really great, then they find out I'm homeschooled, and I'm sheltered? ... (Asked by crankj92) |

| People think this way b/c they don't like something that is different. Note the irony here, public school advocates brag how those students are more open to new things, and more diverse...BUT throw in one home schooler and it's like they're radioactive! Public schoolers can't handle it. If you're not like them, you must be a "social catastrophe". Some diversity. Public schoolers are conditioned to accept one standard. The teacher knows all, and don't think of learning from anywhere else. It's easy and comfortable. The homeschooler OTOH, comes in steeped in the ability to think and ...(Answered by Iridium190) | |

Was the Virginia Mass Murderer A Product of the Public School System? If so, why is this not plastered on headlines with questions regarding what is wrong with public schooling such that it produces such angry people? I ask because in the very few cases where something goes wrong with a homeschooled kid, we see headlines about it and TV reports about the dangers of homeschooling. With the numerous public school shootings over the past few years, we never hear that about the public school system. Why? Is there a bias? ... (Asked by answer man) |

| I really don't know how this happened and I'm not going to even beging to pretend to have an answer. For me (personally) to delve in to parenting styles or things like that would seem judgmental, especially since I do not know these people. As a society we want to understand everything, and sometimes we just have to accept that there are going to be things that happen that we do not understand. We have to get that we won't get it all the time. but I will say, at first I misread your question and thought you were saying he did ...(Answered by Terri) | |
