Do kids bother writing actual English sentences anymore? This might sound like an old-fogey thing (and I'm not old, or a fogey!)... I've only been on Yahoo! Answers for awhile, but I've noticed that nearly every question or answer from teenagers is written like this: "Hay duz enny1 but me like 2 lissen 2 rap cuz i like rap if u hav sum mp3s u cn send em 2 me." Is this a text-message thing... or are kids just not bothering with English anymore? I'd love to think that the younger generation is very tech-savvy and smart, but seeing the questions on here about computers ("wat iz a labtop?" or "can ... (Asked by Otter) |

| I'm so glad I'm not the only person bothered by this! I'm 28, so I've grown up with computers and I've had a cellphone for 11 years. I will use text language when texting because you don't get many spaces, but I refuse to use it anywhere else! So it takes me half a second longer to type "you" - so what? At least the people reading it can immediately see what I'm saying, they don't have to decipher it first. It's no wonder kids can't spell and don't understand basic grammar and punctuation. Yes, Otter, quite depressing....(Answered by seacat) | |

Should Principals/Teachers be allowed to use corporal punishment in schools? I've worked in and around the School system for many years. What bothers me is the fact that students are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want these days. There seems to be NO discipline what so ever. Principals and Teachers are NOT allowed to use what we called the "dreaded paddle"(that looked like a boat paddle!) to punish children these days when they misbehave. I've seen students, cuss, kick, spit, be sooo disrespectful to the staff and nothing can be done about it. Sure, you can expel, but you damn sure can't send them ... (Asked by Snowflake) |

| I don't think principals and teachers should be able to hit children. What children need is discipline from their own parents. It should be started at an early age and should continue until the child is 18. I often see parents with their children and it is easy to tell that the children are the ones in charge. They whine and throw a fit until the parent gives in. I never let my children get away with that. What I think should happen in a situation like this is that the parent should be called into the school each time their ...(Answered by Just Me) | |

Do you think teachers are nicer to parents and the kids on parent conference night? Just has parent - teacher interview things tonight, and I went with my Mom. There is this teacher that is always so miserable and depressed, and nasty to us in class but all of a sudden she is so happy to actually be within 2 feet of a teenager. When she sat down with my Mom and me, she was smiling and crap. Talk about acting. There was a couple of other teachers who are usually strict and mean, acting all happy. It bothers me so much, because my parents think the teachers are all wonderful and nice when really some ... (Asked by PROUD 2B BLONDE) |

| This is a myth propogated by those who have a vested interest in the public school system. Don't take my word for it - see what researchers and college admissions officers have to say about homeschool and social skills: ---- In all the serious research that is done on home school socialization by professional pyschologists, it would be difficult to find a single one that finds homeschooled children coming out under their counterparts in public or private schools. ---- Several studies have been done to measure homeschoolers' "self-concept," which is the key objective indicator for establishing a child's self-esteem. A child's degree of self-esteem is ...(Answered by bossbackocd) | |

I don't really mind the trip, because i like spending the time with my parents (too far for a bus (: ) However, it bothers me that all my friends live so far, so for the past four years i've been debating with myself as to whether i should make the transition. | Answer them truthfully unless they make you seem like a bad person. Make yourself seem like a decent person overall who has good traits. If you have bad characteristics, try to get around revealing them and focus on the good things about you. As for answering the questions, I really don't know half of them like why you want to be a sixth grade counselor. I can give you advice for each though: 1. Do you think high school exit exams that can be passed in 10th grade defeat the purpose? I work with a lot of teenagers and it always bothers me when I hear about sophomores and juniors taking high school exit exams. In my opinion, I think exit exams should be difficult enough and cover enough of the high school curriculum that the test is still difficult for the average senior. Basically, I think passing an exit exam should indicate a general understanding of all topics including senior year subjects like economics and government. Furthermore, I think passing the exit exam as a senior should be a prerequisite to receiving a diploma. Those who don't pass the exam can ... (Asked by Justin H) |

| I have mixed feelings on the exit exams. My daughter was a very good student, but had difficulties in math. She failed the math portion of her exit exam every time she took it the first 2 years and was so frustrated by her senior year I was afraid she was going to quit school as soon as she turned 18. She finally passed the exam just in time for graduation. My son passed the exit exam his sophomore year and we couldn't keep him in school ( drop him off at the front door, he walked out the back door), ...(Answered by EvilWoman0913) | |
