For professional and personal reason, if one were to learn Chinese would Mandarin be a better choice or Cantonese in terms of ease of learning and how wide the language is used. I'm a Chinese-American who can speak both Mandarin and Cantonese, in addition to 2 other local Chinese dialects PLUS Vietnamese, so you can trust me on this: I keep telling people that Mandarin is the national dialect. There are more people in the world who are speaking Mandarin than Cantonese. The previous answerer is also right: Cantonese is a local dialect spoken in HongKong, Macau, and Guang Dong province. And, from the early 1900's to presently, it is also the major dialect spoken in the Chinatowns around the world because more businesses were opened by Cantonese-speaking ...(Answered by Goku-San)

A.
Japanese is easy to learn. Cantonese is much harder to learn. I'm a native cantonese speaker and I am a volunteer in teaching cantonese~ I've learned japanese before~ it's not to hard for anyone. English is not hard at all compared to Cantonese and the chinese culture itself. You can barely get a pass in chinese language in secondary school/high school even if u're a chinese yourself!...(Answered by Viv)

Learning a different language such as English, in my humble opinion, should be taught by the lauguage that you want to learn. Finding a school that teach English in Thai in Hong Kong is almost close to impossible. I suggest that watching children program such as English cartoon is a good way to learn because they usually speak slowly and the vocabulary is easier to understand. speaking is always much easier. If your gonna try to learn how to write and read, it is going to be really hard. (not impossible) there are tons of books and softwares available all over the net, ie ebay, amazon etc. The problem with those is that you really have to put effort into it because if you are constantly busy, you may find yourself using it for a couple of weeks and then forgetting it if you miss one day of it...(Answered by PIY0)
