If you are a good reader and test taker get the Cisco Press books. Although some of the exams are not out yet in book form. http://www.ciscopress.com/markets/detail.asp?st=44734&rl=1 If you are a hands on type of person, get a couple of routers and the above books from eBay. (Many of options here, depends on which exam(s) you are going for). As soon as you feel confident enough to take the next exam.... The timing of the tests is essentially up to you. I completed my CCNP (passing the all tests) in about a week. Mostly because I walked into it "cold" (meaning I didn't study at all) to take my first exam and failed it. Then I made sure that I took about a day to study before each exam.
