| Traditional Curriculum is "ONE SIZE FITS ALL" - so you can uniformly train/teach a lot of people cheaply and fast and it has measurable outcomes. However, drop out rates are much higher and less successful individually. Learner-Centered Approach - addressing the needs of individual learners and learner styles - it is obviously not one size fits all - more effort to administer because the curriculum has to be altered to fit individual needs - more time consuming, ergo more expensive in administration and teacher time. | As a teacher I can tell you it is when the teacher plans activities that are tailored to the students. For instance, this would not include lectures and teacher-centered teaching because the teacher is controlling the conversation and learning in the classroom. Student centered activities would be group work, presentations, discussions,inquiry activities. Does learners centered class rooms saves the teachers energy? New educational reform (which was introduced once before too) is learner centered. Is it saving teachers energy? Teaching is not just that teacher keep on teaching & speaking. How long can you listen a speach? US servey says after 5 minutes we loose our concentration on a new speaker but sure he enjoys speech after 5 minutes. because he has overcome the nervousness. If what ever I have to do if I do 70% myself & 30 % by th ehelp of facilator. I will learn the thing 70% just the moment i will finish.& I will have 70% concentration ... (Asked by Jyoti P) |

| I too feel that for learners centered teaching the teacher should better attend to individual student and encourage them to work more themselves... However, I think that it is OK for the middle school students... the higher the class the more would be the percentage of speech... Why is the Indian education system still archaic? Just book/ teacher centered, emphasis on rote learning? Indian education system - knowledge to be transmitted by teacher rather than discovered by learner. Is'nt it high time to adopt the Western style -extroverted, visual, analytical, being creative, where student learns to exhibit his/hers own distinctive learning style and build character.? ... | No, The Indian Education system is great, we have 2 kids studying in primary overseas. When I was 7 years old we learned a lot, practised English, Hindi, Maths, Social Sciences and Science and we had different teachers for different subject. Here my kids have only one teacher teaching the everything ! And I speak from the experiences which I had and my kids are having here. My kids are having a overdose of the visual stuff you are talking about and they get tired writing 2 lines in their notebooks.
