Q.
How much do I charge to tutor?
I am currently in school, working towards my teacher certification. I have been asked by several parents of the children whose classroom I'm doing my student teaching in if I would agree to tutor their child one-on-one over the summer. What I am wondering is, how much I should charge? The children would be young- between 5 and 8 years old. I would spend days working with them over the summer, with full out lesson plans: quite like a governess actually. I know my cousin has her Master's degree and teaching certification and she was told she could charge upwards ... (Asked by bluebird)

It sounds as though you may be actually being offered a nanny position rather than a tutor. When I think of a tutor I would pay a teacher 30-50 dollars an hour once or twice a week. However, a full day of lessons including grading and assessments would be more of a governess, and the pay would be different. What is the income level of the folks you are dealing with? People who make over 100,000 a year tend to be able to pay the big hourly wages. These folks may not be that wealthy ...(Answered by Aubrey C)

Q.
tattoo apprenticeship?
I want to become a tattoo artist, and not because of shows like Miami Ink. I have a couple tattoo's from some different artists. The last artist I went to was really good. I asked him if anyone had apprenticed under him, and he repiled yes, and that he charged him like 8,000 dollars. This seems a bit too much. I do understand that they are training you for a career, but I've people not charging for an apprenticeship. Is this true or not and what could sway a person to not charge for an apprenticeship? ... My fiance was a tattoo apprentice for a while. He barely made any money doing it. They technically don't have to pay you for being an apprentice. Since my fiance was considered the secretary also, he got paid a little, but not much! You are there to learn as an apprentice, not to get paid. That's just the truth! Sorry....(Answered by Alli)

I'm a qualified schoolteacher living in the UK with a PGCE in teaching modern foreign languages from Cambridge University. I have two years experience teaching French, Spanish and Russian in a secondary school. I have a possible private student wanting to learn Portuguese, how much do you think I should charge per hour. How much to charge for music lessons....?
how much should I charge per hour for sax lessons? I'd be teaching little kids (just learning) and I want the price to be affordable and reasonable :] I'm 15, in highschool, and I have been playing for about 7 or 8 years, so I believe this must be taken into account as well; but I am very experienced! :P Thanks! I don't really have any experience teaching... but I do believe that I would have the skills needed as I am also an avid babysitter and I'm great with kids. I was thinking around $10 or $15 per hour, so this kind ... (Asked by saxophist)

First of all let me say it is very admirable of you to endeavor to teach music. Music is a very subjective matter- what one calls "good" another regards as "noise". The same can be said for teaching, and teaching technique. Everyone teaches differently, and more important- everyone learns differently. The best teachers are the ones who can recognize how his or her students learn and tailor the lessons for them. That said, with inexperience comes the inability to accurately gauge what it takes to connect with someone in order to teach them. You may be well suited ...(Answered by the_dude)

"He charged me director with indifference." Could anyone tell me what is the word "director" doing there?
I read this sentence in an online dictionary, which is given as an illustration of the meaning of the word "charge". What confuses me is the word "director". It's also my impression that this is a typo, but I'd bet that the typo is in the word "me." It should have been "my," as in: "He charged my director with indifference." Just a thought!...(Answered by Professor X)

most get between 25 -40 dollars a half hour...in most of the regular country... I say regular country because NY..in the 5th AVE area they pay around $250 - $500 and hour at a minimum..for their music lessons....and they feel that is a check way to entertain their children... but a fair wage would be between 25-50 dollars a half hour... of course this depends if it is friends ..then maybe you could make a special deal at a lower price and a special time so not to interfere with your other students... but if it is family then maybe a special price ...(Answered by ft3535)
