Dentistry Work Experience? Is it normal for applicants to study dentistry to have work experience? Did you if you're a student now? I ask as I haven't been offered any position to do work experience after applying to about 30 places & wondered if it's for health & safety or privacy reasons rather than just me?? ... Work experience is certainly a help to get into any Uni course. Most people I see organised the W.E. through their school in 4th or 5th year. You could try writing to local dentists and VOLOUNTEERING to assist in their practice for about 2 weeks, then that should give you a leg-up to get going? I am not aware of any H&S issues that restrict it, and they could ask you to sign a "Non-disclosure" form....(Answered by G!)

I'm not canadian, and I'm not into dentistry, but I know that the best universities in Canada are on the west coast, near the major cities, and all of them will have answers to your questions. There are a decent amount all over America. I'm not familiar with Canada at all for dentistry. Cousin and best friend in high school both recently graduated from dental school. In CA, I know that the Univ of Pacific has a program for high schoolers. You start right out of high school, do an accelerated program in undergrad there, and then move on to the dental school. For the US, find dental schools, then look in the admissions area for the DDS programs. The info about high school programs are usually hidden there, unless they have it on ...(Answered by Linkin)

You have to go to "regular" undergrad college first for at least a couple of years. Some dental schools have programs where you enter a program straight from high school, just do a couple of years at the undergrad taking the absolutely necessary courses before going on to the graduate dental school. No one can really answer that except yourself. Some people find biotechnology far more interesting, others find dentistry does it for them. I would recommend seeing if you could "job shadow" a dentist and someone in biotech for awhile, so you can determine which holds more interest for you. If you are currently in college, there are quite often programs in place to be able to do this. However, you can always approach people on your own.
