[((x1-average)^2)+((x2-average)^2)+ ...+((xn-average)^2)]/(n-1)=variance n is the number of measurements, average is the average of the measurements, x1, x2,...,xn are individual measurements. square root of variance =standard deviation or standard deviation^2= variance For your data stdev=0.226781833488569 square this and get var=0.0514300000004368 Now round your answer to thousandths place. If you look up standard deviation (stdev) in excel help you'll find this along with the formula. STDEV Estimates standard deviation based on a sample. The standard deviation is a measure of how widely values are dispersed from the average value (the mean). Syntax STDEV(number1,number2,...) Number1,number2,... are 1 to 30 number arguments corresponding to a sample of a population. You can also use a single array or ...(Answered by jason s)

A.
Well...if you assume this is a normal (Gaussian) distribution: an 800 is: (800-518)/115 = 2.45 standard deviations above the mean If someone looks at a normal distribution table: http://www.statsoft.com/textbook/sttable.html The probability of being 2.45 standard deviations or above is: 0.5 - 0.4929 = 0.0071 Roughly 0.7%. For the true answer...I think its lower than 0.7%...(Answered by Doug)

A.
There is no typical exam. Standardized tests have a standard deviation but there is no one SD that fits for all (or even a majority of the tests). For the case of intelligence (general) testing, the mean is 100 and the SD is 15. However every test has its own standard deviation based on the scores achieved. The exceptions are those with huge standardization data sets (IQ, SAT, PSAT, ACT...) You can find the SD for these tests on their websites and in some research papers as well. Overall, every time the test changes there tends to be a change ...(Answered by ThinkingMan2006)
