I know someone who offered to make a donation to a charitable cause. The donation was to go to a new facility? on a school campus. The donor was asked to attend one meeting with the committee and did so. Prior to that one meeting s/he was never contacted again. The donor was under the impression that the new facility was not built due to a lack of funding. However, just recently the donor was informed that the facility was built. Furthermore, the guest of honor is attending the facilities dedication which is to take place in a few days, and the donor was not invited. Have you discussed organ donation, and are you for or against it and why? I think many people are misinformed about all of it and I'm trying to find out just what people know. Once my daughter was declared brain dead the transplant team took over the cost of her medical care while they tested and looked for reciepients who would be compatable for her blood type. So there was no cost to our family. There is also no cost to the recipients family for the organ per say. Where the cost comes in is the surgery to take out then replace the diseased organ. While renewing her drivers license last year, my son, who was 14 at the time, asked my wife why she checked the organ donation box on her application. She and the clerk answered his question. He said that is something he would do also when he got his license. Five months later he was struck by a car and was declared brain dead 12 hours later. Many companies (in my area) have a program where they donate their computers to poor families and non-profit organizations. Check with some of your larger major manufacturers & companies in your area. ASK- and ye may receive! Its a deduction on their taxes if they donate stuff. If they are upgrading and installing newer equipment you could get lucky. Also check your local paper. Hope this helps....(Answered by naonip)

Looking 4 computer donation for my classroom? I teach 4th grade in the Los Angeles area. I am new to the school, so I got stuck with only one working computer in my room (most classrooms have at least 4 for independent work by students). The computer that does work only has Windows 95 installed, which won't let me log on to many of my district's applications (report cards, etc.). The IT people say that even if I upgrade my version of Windows, my old computer couldn't handle it. Are there any specific places I can look, or people I can write, to possibly get some computers ... I have heard that Micrsosoft donates computers to needy districts. Try them. There are also many grants available for different things. I would search around for educational grants. Another option would be to contact businesses. Let them know of your need. If they are getting new computers and need a place to donate their older ones then it would be a tax write off for them. Even if they are older to the company they may still be better than what you currently have. It may be hard to come by, but is doable.
