Driving School = 10 hours?!? Seriously. Why do driving schools advertise 10 hours. But in truth, it takes at least 50 hours for someone who is a total noob at driving (meaning... NEVER TOUCHED A CAR in his/her life)... to be decent enough on the road. 10 hours is not enough to teach someone how to react to various road hazards and obstacles and situations. ... (Asked by CL) |

| You're right, you can't learn to drive decently in only 10 hours of behind-the-wheel training. State law in California requires 50 hours of driving practice before taking the test, just as you said. However, at around $40 an hour, not everyone can afford 50 hours of driving lessons, which would run about $2000. So state law only requires 10 hours of behind the wheel *lessons* for new drivers. The remaining 40 hours must be completed with a licensed adult over the age of 25 sitting in the passenger seat in a position where they could take ...(Answered by Szki-piano) | |

| The very same thing happened to a Friend of mine a few years ago. Do you wear glasses? Please do not take offence by this answer, but my Friend did wear glasses, and it was found out they were not suitable for driving. May be something to check out. Also, ensure you are high enough in your seat. Try using a cushion to ensure better vision, as I feel this could be your problem, and the ability to drive well, example, manoeuvring. Before your next lesson, ask if you can alter the position of all the mirrors on the car, so you can see ...(Answered by Dr David) | |

| You're not "retarded" -- like you said, just nervous. What's the big rush ? Oh, I know, "I can get a DL and all I need to do is ..." Give it a while ... drive around with your Mom and Dad and stuff on your learner's permit until you're fully used to driving. Then, the added pressure of the "Driver Guy" won't be as much of a distraction. Don't fret over it. You'll get your license soon enough. Take a month off from it ... practice and you'll do fine.
