foreign languages and Learning disabilities.? I went to a private school for LD and they did not help me at all.They told me they are not trying to help me acheive anything we just work you at your level and thats it.How was that helping me?They did not offer foreign languages.I was denied to take Geometry,Algebra 2 and many other courses. I'm so sorry you had such a negative experience. It sounds like the people you spoke to did not take the time to explain how our brains acquire language. If you do in fact qualify as "LD", that doesn't mean that you cannot learn. It just indicates that your learning patterns are different from the majority -- not wrong, just different. private schools for LD kids-? Did you think Private Schools for LD kids in the 1960s or 70s helped these kids or was just another dumping ground?I went to one of those schools and they told me I will never get better and forget learning how to read and do math.I would be lucky to get a job pumping gas. I guess no one knew how to help kids with LD then. Whats your take on this? Also I never went to college,my parents told me I should never go to college and a college advisor at a community college told me(1979) that kids with LD have no business going to college,even a community college.See ... I think that they thought they were doing the right thing and they perhaps started out with grand ambitions, however, the schools did not work out, had poor leadership and became quickly overburdened. We have come a long way since then. We have learned so much more about the disabilities and what are effective teaching methods. I would wash in washer with some tide, Cold water gentle cycle. If your washer has a setting I would do an extra spin cycle to help with drying.. then Hang dry or you could try the tumble cycle with low to no heat in the dryer .....(Answered by shari j)

I am all for special schools that really SPECIALIZE in a childs disabilities! I know several people who have put their children in these schools and they have blossomed in them. Also another good point is that at those schools they arent' the only ones with this problem. They aren't the weird outsider anyore, they are just like everyone else there! It helps self esteem and has specialized teaching systems for their specific problem! I'm for them!...(Answered by jen)
