A. Stay calm. You will not do anyone any good if you panic. You tell someone to call 9 - 1 - 1 and then tell them to come back and tell you what was said (this way they don't bail and not do this chore). If the person is down you evaluate them to determine if they have a pulse and are breathing if they don't then you start CPR. they dont need it and you DO NOT HAVE to give it to them. They will insist and you need to insist right back. They usually use it to keep track of a patients account, tell them you want a random number applied or use your childs birthdate. the school nurse cannot use the number for your child without you signing a waiver and why would the nurse do that? Hello.. there are a few EM programs out there and many that are in development. In fact, I sat on a panel to help build curriculum for a EM/Homeland Security program for colleges in Washington state. Are you seeking online/correspondence courses, or are you looking to move near a school? Years ago when I started in EM, the only school out there was FEMA/EMI and I took course via mail. To become an emergency physician you first need to complete a pre-med bachelors degree (various majors to choose from, just need to make sure you meet the pre-med requirements), then 4 years of medical school...at the beginning of the 4th year of med school you'll need to start applying to residency programs. We don't have an emergency medicine residency here, so I can't really give you specifics on who has, who doesn't and how many years and emergency medicine residency is.
