This is a scary time for parents. I am a preschool teacher myself and I support parents through this stage almost every year. No matter what the EELP people suggest, it is up to you as parents whether you want to accept their help. If they want to seperate your two children and you do not want that to happen, stand up for yourself and state your reasons why. If they cannot accomodate your needs, you can always take your children out of the program. Having said that, if your child's teachers feel that your child will benefit from the EELP ...(Answered by beejay)

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the folks who said to work on exercises and tongue placement yourself; you are not a speech pathologist! There are techniques that can really screw things up if you don't have the appropriate training. I agree, though, that he needs to see an audiologist for a hearing assessment. It is true that /l/ develops sooner than /r/ or /th/. Frequently, /l/ and /r/ difficulties go hand in hand- they are both characterized as "glides", which entail movement of the tongue throughout the utterance of the sound in question. They can be difficult for ...(Answered by etpilot)

Experience with KinderCare pre-school programs?
My daughter just moved over to the KinderCare 3 yr old pre-school room. My son will move there in 1.5 yrs. We are evaluating whether we should keep them there until PK or K or move them to another PK facility or even montessori. We in Germantown, Maryland. Does anyone have any experience with their kids in KinderCare's 3,4,5 yr old rooms (PK and K)? Do you think they were well prepared for school; did you like Montessori better; would you do it again? Just trying to evaluate other options. ... (Asked by Radius Simsy)

I liked the three year old room very much, but the four year old room was packed with 20 four year olds to one teacher (minimum standards for this county). The room was a large room divided into three classrooms by partitions. The rooms were noisy and had little room for the kids. There was constant traffic in and out the door as the other two rooms alternated between the playground and other activities. We were almost ready to sign up the kids (ages 3 & 4) until we saw the busy 4 year old room .We opted ...(Answered by cindy1323)

Singing is a great idea. Also you can play i-spy type games. Also a car scavenger hunt. The "list" can be pictures of things you are likely to see, a red car, another school bus, a dog, McDonald's, etc. Give each kid the list and a crayon to cross them off when they see them. This can also be made into a Bingo game by placing in squares. The first to get a row win a prize like a sticker. If you laminate the list (clear contact paper works) and use dry erase markers, you can play this over and ...(Answered by Amy Dee)

My grandson was not speaking as early as we thought he should, and I felt that he was not hearing well. They tested his hearing and said it was alright, but it wasn't. He had ear infections constantly, and the tests failed to pick up his hearing loss. You might need to take him to an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. (and ENT doctor) Get a second and THIRD opinion if you have to. And to the person who said, "talk to doctors and not us" This parent is already going to doctors, but came ...(Answered by Nena H)

Q.
I'm having some difficulty with my 4 year old, who keeps running out of his class. What do I do to help him?
My son is 4 years old and he's in Pre-K, and goes all day. He leaves the classroom and lunchroom, runs away from the teachers, hides under chairs and generally will not follow the rules or instructions. He's even run outside before they could catch him. He throws fits, screams and cries, and even throws himself on the floor in his "hissy fits" when he doesn't want to do something or doesn't get his way. They (the school ... teachers and principals) are already near their wits ends with him, and are suggesting that he has "problems" and are wanting ... (Asked by nsphatgurl)

I have a child that has been diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. He was enrolled in the public school's preschool program at the age of 3. He is now 7 and starting his 5th year of public school. His first 3 years were in resource classes (special ed), but his kindergarten, and now his 1st grade years, have been in mainstream classrooms. And, since the beginning, he's gone full days. Over the years of preschool, I saw alot of children in those classes with various diagnoses. Some extreme, some subtle. And, I witnessed children that just couldn't "conform" to what ...(Answered by Proverbs31Mom)

Pardon me. Seriously, I don't understand why your system doesn't provide you with the needed criteria? As we know, each state basically has their own. Obtaining criteria on Yahoo doesn't seem to be a reliable source with which to evaluate a teacher. (?)...(Answered by Catie)
