Going after Cacciato is a really complex novel. That complexity makes it nice when falling to the question of "what is the author trying to tell the reader," because you can support many ideas. Here are some things you might want to look at: The "simplest" thinker leads everyone out of the war. Escaping the geographical location of the war didn't necessarily make things better. The smell of death surrounds them just about everywhere they travel. They become "ghosts" at the end with no one really recognizing their existence. Personally, I'd go with something like "O'Brien helps the reader understand the totality of war involved ...(Answered by help_me_moses)

Q.
Dear Homeschoolers, why are taking sides against each other?
A recently asked question regarding what qualifies as "true" homeschooling leads me to ask this piercing question. Should we spend even an ounce of energy trying to say one person is not officially homeschooling simply because of the materials or support they use? Is the parent using Calvert's teacher advisors not still at home making sure that the child does the work and ensuring that the papers get mailed on time? Should the parent using a private computer program be associated with those "evil" public schoolers? Are the parents who check all the catalogs for ... (Asked by delemamomma)

I must have missed that one ;o) It doesnt matter to me that someone doesnt consider cyber schooling or home tutoring, or unschooler a "true" hser. Its much the same as I view the atheist that tries to make me 'see the light' about religion. (yeah, bad pun intended) I really dont see much hostility about it here at YA, but then again I am rather new to the forum. My dd started with online schooling this year, and I know it isnt the same as hsing in many regards. If someone wants to start an argument about it, ...(Answered by Deb)

Q.
Do you think mandatory public school is right vs. home schooling?
No, i'm not saying we shouldn't educate our children, and I realize that some people need a place to put their children so they can work, but all that aside, do you think it's right to send your children away for 8 hours a day to be taught by someone else? The way society is today and the way some parents are, I don't know that it is possible to not have a public school system, but here is an interesting quote.. "Control the public education, and you control the state." that my not be verbatim, but it's close, ... (Asked by cheesey :))

Q.
Homeschooling parents: How do I work with an ex-husband whose new wife homeschools --?
And now, because of her views, he feels the public school system is evil and corrupt. We have always had our children in public school and have adult children who are stellar, independent and happy. They are fully-functioning adults. Our minor children are in public school and I face a barrage of intrusion from my ex (really from his wife, via my ex) regarding their education. Please enlighten -- as I really don't believe -- after reading much of the responses in Yahoo! Answers homeschooling section -- that all homeschoolers are of the opinion that they are "RIGHT" ... When you say "intrusion" I believe that you are actually raising the children. Homeschooling is a huge commitment for the child and the parent doing the homeschooling, and yes it is not for everybody. I too, attend a fundamentalist Christian church and I find it promotes homeschooling for good reason. BUT, it is not the end-all. A lot of the material used to homeschool the children is horribly biased and I find some inaccuracies in the Science and History because they are not "selling science or history, they are selling religion" I think that ...(Answered by Gypsy)

Q.
You all HAVE to read this...;)... For Christians...?
I just HAD to share this "God Moment". My Husband and I have been considering home schooling and have been praying about it. Well, I have been getting so much support here and I wanted to let you all know that I saw a Bible vs. on another site. The vs. seemed to really "hit" me so I emailed it to my Husband.... he was sitting beside me when he read it... He then turned and opened his Bible... He is on the SAME book in the Bible as the vs. Have any of you had things like this happen ... (Asked by hmeshow)

To answer your question, yes I've had something like that happen when I was having a problem. Either read a verse or remember one that I had heard over and over. Wow, I know from your past few questions that you've been really praying about your decision to homeschool. Don't you feel about 20 pounds lighter after knowing you have an affirmation from God? After all, as the verse says, God knows what's best for you, so when God gives you that affirmation you know your in His will. I must also mention that Jeremiah 29:11 is one of my favorite verses. ...(Answered by Catie)

Q.
Why do parents choose to homeschool?
I myself do not homeschool. I haven't had the education or patience to do that. The usual reasons I've heard are public schools are "evil". Or, they want to teach their kids their specific religion in the home. They argue that their kids are socialized through community sports or dance classes etc.. Is that really enough socialization for a child? And what exactly are the evils of the public school system? In my opinion, the family unit has a lot to do with how well kids do in a public school, if you're ... (Asked by maplunkett)

Well, I was homeschooled because the school system would not allow me to go to the school i could walk to without crossing busy streets, they wanted to put me on the city bus as a kindergartener to get to school. My mom didn't like the idea and it was not illegal to keep me at home for kindergarten, even though they like to make it sound like it is required. She said that if she could teach me to read herself then she would homeschool me for a while. It ended up being 7 years. k-6 and then in ...(Answered by monomania)
