Basically by getting rid of the samurai and their lords. After the Meiji Restoration, the old daimyo system of warlords who governed clan territories was abolished along with the samurai class. Governors were appointed to lead the newly re-drawn prefectures. The Meiji govt also turned to a number of foriegn experts to help them build industry. At the same they encouraged Japanese to study abroad and return to help the nation....(Answered by samurai_dave)

Just educated guessing: 4A - Even today, religion questions any scientific advance that might threaten their belief system, so the catholic church would not favor science. As with the church, people who believed taking a bath would make you sick didn't want to hear that cleanliness was healthy. There is some truth in leading to the end of feudalism, but only indirectly. Human reason caused the scientific revolution and the age of enlightenment. The ideas from "enlightenment" fueled the political change more than the scientific revolution. On 5, I'd go with all of the above....(Answered by LaserLifer)
