Can someone explain to me how to divide fractions? Best answer for the first person to help me understand dividing the following types of fractions: Whole number / fraction (3 / 4/5) Mixed number / fraction (3 4/5 / 4/5) Fraction / fraction (4/5 / 3/4) Mixed number / mixed number (3 4/5 / 3 3/4) Improper fraction / fraction (5/4 / 3/4) Improper fraction / improper fraction (5/4 / 4/3) Thank you! Those aren't actual questions on the sheet I'm doing. Showing with numbers would be easier than words. Thank you!! (We learned it at school but I was at the optometrist, so I couldn't pay attention if I wanted to :) lol) Am I on the right track? ... (Asked by Roch) |

| Ok that's a lot of information - you need to know the basic premise of division of fractions: You leave the first fraction as is, change the division sign to a multiplication sign, and flip the other fraction. That flipped fraction is a fraction's reciprocal. For example, with two proper fractions: 4/5 (divided by sign) 3/4 becomes 4/5 x 4/3 and you solve by multiplying the numerators and denominators: 16/15 (and if you need too and can, simplifly) 1 and 1/15 Ok, for whole number and fraction: 3 is actually 3/1 3/1 (divided by sign) 4/5 becomes 3/1 x 5/4 15/4 (simplified to) 3 and 3/4 Ok, finally, for mixed fractions, turn the mixed fraction ...(Answered by missyvecc) | |

Math Question? Fractions!!!!? If you have two fractions and you are trying to see which one is bigger can you cross multiply to determine the bigger one, and if this is true does it work with all fractions in general. I know how to Get the LCD and to actually divide each to get a decimal! Just wondering if the cross multiplying thing works everytime? such 2/3 and 4/8 cross multiply to get 16, and 12. | a). The way you do this problem is by finding the lowest common denominator between these two fractions. In this problem that common denominator is 10. So what you have to do is multiply both the top and bottom of each fraction with either a 5 or a 2 to make both of the bottoms 10: (1/2)(5) = 5/10 (1/5) (2) = 2/10 5/10 + 2/10 = 7/10 b) For this problem all you have to do is take 9/20 and subtract 1/4 from it but in order to do that you have to multiply (1/4) by 5 to make the bottom of ...(Answered by debbie_75052) | |

| 25% 3/12 is simplified into 1/4. There are 4 quarters in a dollar. One quarter is equal to 25 cents. So 3/12 (or 1/4) equals 25%. That's how I figure it out. Here's a step by step on how to find it: 3/12 Simplify 1/4 Divide the numerator by the denominator. 4/1=0.25 Move the decimal to the right two places (or multiply by 100) to find the percentage. 25%...(Answered by kanosa) | |

| First, you must get the fractions into improper form. That is, changing the mixed number (a whole number and a fraction) into just one fraction. To do this: (Denominator= number on bottom, Numerator= number on top) > Multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the current numerator. Ex: 2 1/4 >> 9/4 > Next you must get a common denominator between the two fractions. In your example, the easiest way is to just multiply the two denominators together. And since you have multiplied the bottom, you must do the same to the top. Ex: 9/4 + 5/3 >> 27/12 ...(Answered by DragonCowBeast) | |
