Potential of genius in adolescents? I'm 17 and I think I have the potential to be a genius. But I'm an average student. The fact that I'm average at school perpetuates the bel I will simply be an average member of society. I'm an average student because I apply myself more to my interests than in school. My interests are intellectual. I like to do investigations on several subjects like geniuses, adolescent behaviour and school. I am joining those three at the moment. Here is my take on that. Taking an interest will guide you in directions where that can help you doing something that not only interests you but may pay well. Trying for good grades can help you get the recognition you'll want, and from only that point of view are desirable to get. When my daughter went through school I told her, what you learn now is not the important thing. Learning HOW to learn and applying things you learn to real life problems, THAT is of importance. A guy named Forrest Mars invented the recipe for M&M's during the Spanish Civil War. Mars saw soldiers eating pieces of chocolate covered with a hard sugary coating. The coating preventing the chocolate from melting in the hot sun. In the Early 1940's by the mid 1950's they were being sold as M&M's, and were trademarked, along with their slogan; melts in your mouth, not in your hand... the only thing he should've done was use dark chocolate, in my humble opinion... A REAL genius would not need to tell people, they would soon be aware of this. A REAL genius would not make such a basic error as to leave a word out in their second sentence. IQ is actually a very poor way of measuring "intelligence". People can be genius' s in a wide range of areas- for example a mathematician and BMX champion are geniuses at what they do in their own spheres- why should being able to work with figures and complex formuale mark anyone as more "worthy" than someone who can exert mastery over their own bodies, fears and be creative? What does it take to be a genius? Do you really think you need to have a dismorphed brain to be a genius? Or you just have to have the right surroundings? I have noticed that a lot of people like Edison and Mozart never went to school. Edison's mother took him out of school and put him in this place where he could pusue his interests (building machines and such). He patented his first invention at the age of 15. I have heard many places say many different IQs for geniuses, but 165 seems to be the general consensus. For someone to be considered mentally retarded, he/she must have an IQ at 70 or below. The average person has an IQ of 100 (the average person SHOULD at least, since 100 means average intelligence). I haven't taken an IQ test in 2 years.
