Having a dog to be associated with may serve as a source for gratification as well as an object that can't communicate itself but can facilitate communication in human being associated with it.Can it be helpful in developing social skills in autistic children? ... (Asked by slpfarhat)

A.
Dogs actually communicate very well, and are wonderful (in combination with a behavioral program like ABA and social skills training) for helping autistics learn how to "read" social cues. Dogs are an easy "read." Tail wag means strong emotion. Tail between legs means submissive/upset. And so on. They provide a sense of social acceptance, and don't care if the person is autistic and socially inept... as long as the head is patted, the belly gets a scritch, there's food, water, and shelter, and "master" says good dog when the dog is good. Absolutely, a dog is a wonderful help for social skills training....(Answered by spedusource)
