Q.
Help with multi handicapped home schooling. Please?
We are home schoolin my multi handicapped kid brother who is also blind (mentally challenged as well, I'm thinking something like autism, the doctor has yet to preform any tests on that). The local school board is asking for a list of texts that we are going to be teaching him from, and I can find nothing that is for a mentally challenged multi handicapped blind child. Does anyone have any ideas for us? I have found books for one, but I have not found any text books that combine all of his needs. When he was in school he was ... (Asked by santana84_02)

First of all, find the official homeschool agency for your state. They should be able to let you know what to do and how to find what you need. Also, ask the homeschool agency what the homeschool laws are for your state. In some states, public schools are not suppose to be involved in homeschool at all. So, make sure if the public school there is wanting to see your curiculum, that it is legal for them to see it. Sometimes public schools 'bully' the homeschoolers when they think homeschoolers don't know the laws. Also, go to a site called 'www.schwablearning.org' sign up for free ...(Answered by jdeekdee)

Those who were both physically and mentally handicapped were deemed "Lives unworthy of life" by the Nazi regime. During the first years of the Nazis rise to power these people were being treated as second class citizens. The T-14 experiments (before the gas chambers and extermination camps) were used to kill the members of the disabled community. They were some of the very first victims of the Holocaust....(Answered by iapple)

Some advice: First of all, try using terminology that is more acceptable. I am not a major "political correctness" person, but I do believe that it would be far more appropriate to use "people first" terminology. There is a big difference between "people who have disabilities" and "handicapped peolpe." (Using spell check is also recommended.) If you just type "people first" language into a search engine, you will get information on this issue. This information could help you write a good introduction for your project. Secondly, your question is very unclear. Are you looking for ...(Answered by sonomanona)

Many states have a government department that provides services/monies to families of kids with certain types of disabilities. CP is a developmental disability, and you may qualify for services from North Carolina that would allow them to pay for it, or at least part of it. http://www.dhhs.state.nc.us/mhddsas/lmedirectory.htm This is a link to a page where it lists the local offices that may help you. I have a handicapped son who is 32 years old. We have been thru alot together. He has had many health issues. I also recommend home schooling... there is no law that states that your child HAS to attend public school, just that it is mandated as an option. If you strongly feel that your child would be better off with you at home, then take it upon yourself to teach him. I work for a preschool for children with disabilities, and we have had some children with limitations as severe as your son. I have to say, that I find that physical handicaps do not have any bearing on cognitive activity, and if you are the person getting ...(Answered by dolphin mama)
