Can anyone help me to find a host family?
I am a girl, 16 years old, I live in Kosovo. My dream is to study and live in USA but to go there I need help as well. I need to find a host family. I've been searching in a lot of websites but I didn't find nothing worthy. If anyone knows how can I find a host family, or anyone who can connect me with a host family, would help me a lot making my dream come true. It costs $7000 to $11,000 to take care of a teenager for the entire school year. Exchange placement agencies' revenues are from $1 million to $12 million but none of this money goes to host families. It is a huge responsibility so get lots of information before committing to be a host family. We are a Canadian family looking to host a private student.?
We have hosted several students, most of the students enrolled in the programs are Asian, we would love to meet different cultures. Also because we have so much experience, we often are given the most difficult students. Not always a pleasant experience for our family.When you go through the schools or local recruiting organizations, you do not get the opportunity to interview the student yourself and see that they are a good match for the family. I would suggest you contact AFS. They are a great exchange program, and wouldnt put up with the kind of crap you are describing. They are one of the most reputable exchange programs there are. An organization called AFS is reputable and places students from other countries in communities around the world. I worked closely with them as a high school principal, and they were always professional and helpful in placing foreign students in our community. We had up to eight a year from different countries. It was always a rich cultural experience for us as well as for the foreign students. I hope this helps....(Answered by warren1515)

You need to go through an agency that has representatives in your area. Ask the conselors at school. The agency will have their own and will enforce government guidelines. Things like criminal background check, clean and safe housing, auto insurance in force, etc. The exchange student is assessed for academic preparation, English skills, and maturity. As a single parent, your father may raise a few concerns. To be blunt, there's less supervision by a wife to make sure he isn't diddling the exchange student.
