| As a homeschool graduate myself, I know you all are going through a lot. It's hard to keep things together, especially if you are living on one income, like my family did. I just want to encourage you to keep up the fight- for whatever reason you are homeschooling. I wouldn't trade my homeschooled years for anything. As far as homeschooling and working a full-time job, please, do whatever you can as far as putting your family on a budget, cutting back on superfluous spending and so forth, before you go out and get another job. ...(Answered by runninggirl23) | |

Where would you go on a "homeschool mom's break" with only 3 days and $200 each to spend? Serious answers preferred. We are two homeschool moms who's hubbies are taking over the duties for a couple of days. We are actually able fly to most desitinations at no cost, related to relatives employment, orginating out of Memphis. I am posting it here because I am hoping some like-minded homeschool moms will give me some great ideas to pick from. Think it over and share your thoughts with me!! God Bless. ... | Go to Washington, Dc.. Are you saying that your 400 dollars has to cover hotel and food? In dc, stay at the Holiday Inn downtown across from the department of eduacation. Its only a few blocks from the Smithsonian and the national mall. Visiting national monuments is usually free as well as touring the capital and the whitehouse (make arrangements through your representative's office). Food isn't too expensive, there are lots of those street food vendors and some nice little delis....(Answered by celticgirl1787) | |

Socialization? I mean this as a very sincere question to those of you opposed to home education is it really the socialization that is a problem for you or the kind of socialization? The reason I ask that is because for our family personally, both of my children get along greatly with others. We were invited to a pool party and there were children there from ages 6-14 and mine didn't stand off in the corner, scared of the world. They played and interacted and at the end of the night our 12yo sat with another 12yo boy ... (Asked by FreeThinker) |

| I think those opposed to homeschooling believe, for some reason, that we *need* to spend lots of time as kids with a ton of other people the same age to be able to develop 'social skills'. I'm not sure what naysayers mean by that, though, and when I ask, I never get a clear answer. The reality of the situation is that people are assuming that the way they grew up is what they needed in order to have the social skills they now have. Of course, not all public schooled or private schooled students come out of school with ideal ...(Answered by glurpy) | |

| Get him involved in the areas he is concerned about. If he is worried about social issues (probably the most common concern), then ask him what activities, groups, clubs and sports he would like to see the kids involved in and what activities HE would like to do with them. Point out that by homeschooling, your family will actually have more time to pursue these (and other) family activities since all the hours devoted to homework will now be open for other things. If his concern is about certain academic subjects, ask him how he would help ...(Answered by Annie) | |

| Hi! I agree with the other poster that your older children esp. the 9 and 7 year old can do chores. I have a 7 and 13 year old that both do chores. My 7 year old started doing chores at about 5 or 6 years old. I tried the flylady system and I know it does help many people, but for me it was time-consuming and a lot of emails in my box and I felt a little overwhelmed with them. A similar system but easier for me, was motivated moms which I signed up for at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MotivatedMom/. It's ...(Answered by Karen) | |
