Every 6 months your case is reviewed by the Early Intervention team. You can also ask for a reviewal at anytime. If everyone (including you) is in agreement that your child needs to continue, they will provide services until he/she is 3 yro. If after the child turns three, the child requires further services, the team does an IEP (individualized Education Plan) for special education services for either inclusive schooling or special needs schooling (your choice)....(Answered by blondbrainserenity)

Q.
Early Intervention Transition into Public School?
I've been being pushed very hard by my child's therapists about getting this eval and adding that therapy and getting this to happen right away before he turns 3. What happens then? He's developmentally delayed. Does he turn into a pumpkin or something at age 3? Why all of this pressure all the time about everything? They said that he's out of the intervention program at age 3 and becomes the responsibility of the school district in assisting. Has anyone out there been through these things? What can I expect the school district to do with a toddler? Will ... (Asked by lisaclara)

Do a search for early intervention certification programs in universities and colleges in NJ. Or go to the governments website for early intervention - may show you specific courses that need to be taken. Make sure that wherever you move to that they accept your credentials. When I got my EI cert. I searched a 4 state area only to find that very few univ/colleges offered the program. I got a Master's of Education and specialized in early childhood. Then I got the early intervention certification and teacher certification. EI systems are changing in all states - be careful with ...(Answered by sirensc31)

Most states don't use independent contractors, except for therapies (ST, OT, PT). In my district, our early intervention team consists of district-employed social workers, special education teachers and educational assistants (for ages 3-5 DD preschool), coordination with Head Start and other programs, and independent contractors for therapies....(Answered by spedusource)

I had a wonderful experience with ECI in Missouri. They had a wonderful program in the town where we lived. This was also several years ago. Funding changes all things unfortunately. It really depends on where you live and the people providing the services. You must be self informed and demanding if necessary now days. Also I recommend that you join local programs or boards with any relation to the disability of your child. I wish you well. Good luck! Ask, Ask, Ask, Search, Search, Search. I hope your needs are met....(Answered by justswimmin)

Q.
Are early intervention programs designed for this?
My son has developmental delays. We are not rich but not destitute either. My son is 1 1/2 and my daughter is 3. The therapist team is pressuring me to put my daughter in a program for "at risk" kids for a full 5 day per week preschool program where they put them on buses. I can't believe they are recommending this when we do not have any of the qualifications for this program except that we are on a lower income bracket. I don't want my child "flagged" when she goes to school as a child with potential ... (Asked by lisaclara)

Yes, you do have a right to pick and choose the services that are best for you. But before you decide not to include your daughter, make sure you get all the information on the program. Find someone on the team who DOES treat you with respect, and ask him or her to explain why they think she would benefit. Maybe the program helps kids get along with developmentally delayed siblings? Maybe they've noticed delays in your daughter? Maybe they just think it's a great program and want you and your daughter to benefit from it? Once you know their ...(Answered by llemma)

In our state, the early intervention gets money from the regular state government, plus a charitable organization called United Way, and they have an annual fund raiser as well which is held in our local mall and all the local restaurants contribute and its about $50 per person for that.
