| Irlen Syndrome is another name for "scotopic sensitivity." Some people's optical neurons, especially the color-sensing cones, fire at different speed rather than together, creating a rainbow or shimmer effect especially when looking at white (which is all colors). This affects reading because most print is on white background/paper. A color overlay to filter out the problem colors does wonders for someone with this condition, for eye fatigue and reading speed.
