If I have $40,000 in deferred student loans.......? If I have $40,000 of student loans that are currently deferred, is there a way I can get some of this forgiven? My degree is in Business Management and I work in the Human Resources field. I am would like to pay off as much as possible as I am a single mother preparing to send my own child off to college in a matter of a few years. I know that if someone is a school teacher or becomes a full-time school teacher, they can have some of that loan forgiven. I believe the same is also true for ... (Asked by Hallelujah-Hollaback!) |

Ok so my question is, when filing financial aid (fafsa) does workers' compensation have to be reported? Both of my parents are deceased. My father died in a work related injury. I receive workers' compensation on his behalf. When I fill out the fafsa, I never qualify for financial aid even though I desperately need it. Since my parents are deceased, everything (bills, living expenses) falls on me and it would be very difficult for me to pay for school out of pocket and support myself. Does the worker's compensation have to be reported on the fafsa? Is there a loophole or way around reporting this legally, I wouldn't want to ... (Asked by smartypants) |

| I believe since your father sustained an injury that resulted in his death and you are just a beneficiary of the proceeds, I would think the answer would be yes! It is a source of income and your financial status has no bearing unfortunately! If it were your own workers comp from an injury you sustained things might be different in the fact that workers comp is obligated under law to re-train you. Therefore, you could chose a ciriculum and they would foot the bill (but that too has exceptions and regulations)! Sounds like your caught between a rock and a ...(Answered by notaclue) | |

What kind of financial aid is there for a newlywed couple still in school? My fiance and I will be getting married next May of 2007. We will both be in school for a year after that, and are looking for any kind of financial aid we can find. The plus is that we will both be very low income together, and will be dropped from our our parents dependency (we'll be independents). I will gain in state tuition in the state of Alabama after I get married because my wife is an Alabama resident but I am not. The problem arises with the FASFA though. Since FASFA is ... | I'm in a similar situation with student loans and such. I would apply for FASA since it is income based the lower the income the more money you might recieve not to much more but every bit helps. From my understanding FASA like you said gives the grant for current needs and does not factor in. If you are living in the state of Alabama you should see how long it takes to be a resident for most states it's 10 to 12 months, also make sure you have a valid driver's license for the state your in and a lease ...(Answered by velo32)

Dependency Override Help, Please? I am wondering how many people here are getting financial aid that really shouldn't be qualified to? A few of my friends are getting this type of aid and won't tell me how. A few of them got dependency overrides, even though they live at home with parents, or are still supported by them. Are there some clever loopholes here that can help me obtain my override, since for 2006-2007 it said the "unwillingness of a parent to contribute to child's education" does not count, as well as a student proving to be "self sufficient" So I guess I need ... | According to the feds, basically you are dependent if you are under 24, single, not a parent, not a vet and not a ward of the state. It is the school's preference at that point whether or not to do the dependency override. If your friends received the override, and should not have, that is the school that made the decision. Being in financial aid at a private school, I would say that we only honor that override if the student has been removed from custody of the parents due to circumstances, but if it is just ...(Answered by MyAngelLou)
