Need help please!? I feel that I am starting to self destruct myself I got out of Job Corp May 30th of this year and I quit smoking while in job corp but now started back I have noticed that it has lowered my self confidence, also I am starting to drink alot and it is starting to disrupt my work I am calling into work alot and that is making me feel very bad about myself. Your self esteem needs a serious reboot. You are listening to negative input from the people around you and this is affecting your own inner dialogues. What gives cigarette companies the right to sell cigarettes? I no it is a choice but the affects are population, second handsmoke to children that have parents that smoke which then gives them a possibly that they well smoke I use to smoke but quit recently because I felt very sick of myself that I was harming my body which lowered my self esteem which then made my life less productive. its funny how stupid we americans got? I saw an article on the past of education, in like the 1800's, and it showed what 8th or 6th grade kids had to study in their final exam, and it was like high college stuff. I dont have the artice with me but when i do ill show some questions we had to answer, it just shows after 200 yrs. we are stupid! Well you are demonstrating it with the horrible spelling and syntax you used in your question unless that was intentional. I overall disagree with your premise. I don't think we have become more stupid. There is a significantly greater amount of information required of a person today than there was 200 years ago. Further formal education hardly existed in the country prior to the 1860's. If you are looking at a test from that period it most likely was from a private academy where then, as now, students were put up to more vigorous standards. Lowering Standards? There is an educational movement to lower educational standards so the self-esteam of some students wont be hurt when they cant keep up, fail, etc. Personaly I think lowering standards will ultimatly hurt sociaty as a whole, children will become misinformed about their true mental or physical strenths and this could hurt them in the real world and hurt sociaty itself as more mistakes are made. I do not like that idea one bit. Why should society be penalized for a few people that are slower than the rest? If they need extra help learning then by all means give it to them. Do not alter the teaching mechanism to a lower standard for all people just for some touchy feely BS notion. It's definitely still used - do you know what is in the Bill of Rights? Our freedoms of religion, speech, freedom and press, the right to bear arms, and the right not to incriminate yourself for starters. Americans still use those all the time. I can't think of anything in the Bill of Rights that's unfair. I do not think the driving age should be lowered. I do think there are a lot of benefits to school uniforms. Uniforms help eliminate competition in clothing, and discourage materialism. They take away one of the important indicators of relative wealth -- everyone dresses the same, whether they are poor or better off. Also, they save money, which can then be spent on other things.
