Do pre-school children enjoy water play toys?
I am looking into toys available for pre-school children that are water based, so far it appears there are limited choices. I'm curious whether this is a lack of interest especially as my two children (aged 3 and 8) love water play and will find a way of manipulating water with whatever they can find. I would also be interested in the specifics of childrens play i.e splashing, pouring, filling and emptying etc. Any information would be great as I am a trainee teacher looking at ways of improving learning techniques. ... I currently work with preschool children, and aside from the usual water toys of, measuring cups, funnels, plastic boats, etc. I add cornstarch to the water, it makes for a fun time for all. Add enough to cover the bottom of the container about an inch thick. The kids will love it, and it's great for small motor skills in the hands and fingers....(Answered by rwwebber4)

How do I help my 4 y/o son with his pencil/crayon grip?
Actually, he will be 4 in a month. He is so SMART!! A real wiz with puzzles, blocks, patterns... he even does simple math problems. But he cannot hold a pencil or crayon. It's not quite like a baby fist grip- he positions his hand almost like a claw and can't bear any pressure on the writing tip. His fine motor skills are otherwise excellent. He can string beads and manipulate tiny objects. I've heard that boys take longer than girls to master this, but it seems that by almost 4 years old, he ought to be a little ... (Asked by l8ybugn)

At four years old he should be holding a pencil correctly. That means either holding it with a "tripod" grasp or a "quadropod" grasp. A tripod grasp is preferred and most common. Teach him this phrase "Thumb is bent, pointer points to the tip, tall man uses his side. Tuck the last two fingers in and take them for a ride". Demonstrate to him the proper grip as you say it and give him a chance to practice every day. Don't stress him out, just have him practice holding the crayon and coloring 5 ...(Answered by Iknowthat)
