In our home we schedule time after school for the tutor center and after dinner for parents to go over homework. Both parents work full time and the family only meets at home at dinner time. After homework is looked over by the parents if there is more to do the child does what they can before bed time (a set time every night) children need a proper amount of sleep every night in order to function at school. You can't have them learning anything if they are asleep in class everyday because you kept them up studying late. Yelling at ...(Answered by rebecca)

I have a little touch of dyslexia. I'd say tell the student about it, but assure him that it's not a big problem, he's doing very well. I'd say test him to be absolutely sure he's got dyslexia....(Answered by viperdk28)

Which type of school setting or enviornment would work best for a child w/ Asperger?
Would Montessori be a good fit for a child with Asperger's or a traditional school? My 8 year old has it very mild but the I know some of the boys find him a little different. He is also very smart and most 8 year old in his current class are not into the same types of stuff he is into like history, traveling, etc. He has a hard time fitting in with most boys since he is sensitive but he does get along with the girls better which my husband gets worried. I'm a Montessori teacher who has had many children with Asperger's in my classroom. All of them have thrived in the Montessori environment. History and culture are in intrinsic part of the Montessori curriculum. Additionally, Montessori teachers are trained to work with each child's strengths and interests, so they will be able to help him use his interests in history and travel to support his other academic needs. Competition is not fostered in the Montessori environment. Montessorians, do not use rewards for “motivating” our students and we do not compare our students. We teach our students that everyone ...(Answered by Lysa)

This is not that uncommon, especially at this age, and especially in exeptional children. Of course this is when kids are hitting puberty, which we all know is hell, but for a child with an exceptionality, it is especially hard. As she gets older, the gap between her peers and her is getting larger, and she realizes that, so she is acting out in frustration (exactly what you said). There is a technique called self-handicapping that students use, especially as they get older. Students who believe that they will fail at something instead put no effort into it. ...(Answered by seasonsoflove)

Get some flashcards and practice every night. This may not be a catch-all, as some students with ADHD have problems with memory, but it may help. Also you can get some really good math related cd roms. They are not super expensive and are a fun way to practice. You can also go to http://www.aaamath.com where they have lots of grade level activities. You can even print out the percentage of correct and incorrect problems. If your child continues to struggle, you may want to refer him for testing to see if he qualifies for a learning ...(Answered by Viewaskew)
