Q.
When applying to higher education, how to explain past academic mishaps?

How to explain this without making it sound like I am "justifying" or "making excuses"? Please, only sensitive replies, as this is a regetful topic for me. I understand that I can improve my standing by choice courses that "show my stuff", but I just don't know how to explain the blunders. My profile isn't bad--it's a B average, not stellar... I need remediation, I understand and I am confident now that I am ... (Asked by summation)

I had an issue like this my last semester in college...and I gathered a petition for other class members to sign because the teacher was making it very obvious he was discriminating against me. I also wrote a formal complaint letter and went through an appeal process. The academic board came in and ...(Answered by jasonstroble)

Q.
Gramatically correct?
Brain says yes, but this professor grades according to what he would like to see even when more than one correction is correct. Can you check and see if the following is grammatically correct? (pronoun and antecendent agreement) France gets 80 percent of its electrical needs from nuclear power. The have not had a serious mishap to date, but will their luck continue? It seems ok to me! France being a country is an it. They refering back to the French. Apparently I don't know how to type! It SHOULD have read............... France receives nearly 80 percent of ... (Asked by Teresa)

The problem with "The(y)" in the second sentence is that you have not mentioned "The French." You have mentioned only "France." Two ways to re-write: France gets 80 percent of its electrical needs from nuclear power. It has not had a serious mishap to date, but will its luck continue? or The French get 80 percent of their electrical needs from nuclear power. They have not had a serious mishap to date, but will their luck continue?...(Answered by bunstihl)
