If he misses because he was expelled, no. For any other reason, check with your school district office. You should be aware, however, that many skills are learned in 8th grade which are necessary for high school. Even if he is quite intelligent, it may be better for him to complete 8th grade and skip a later, useless year, like 10th....(Answered by Iris)

Are Schools a law unto themselves?
My youngest has just started secondary school, we have had a few teething problems with him being in the right place at the right time, and getting his head around the volume of homework etc. I have just found out his class are on reception duty, this means he misses the last lesson/s of the day (Great for kid, missing lessons!) to help the reception area of the school with 'Jobs' that may need doing, yesterday he was shredding rubbish. If the school receptionist/secretaries are short staffed they should get a temp in! He missed Science to ... (Asked by untanuta)

my daughters school does this but makes sure the class interupted isnt going to be direly important. Our school believes not only teaching the kid their studies-but helping them become responsible-helpful "citizens" I love it - every class has one community service project, and I think that is setting up good morals for the kids. I would talk to your school and find out why they thought he could miss science that day....(Answered by cassiepiehoneybunch)

Alot of schools have attendance policies and some states have a required number of days a child has to attend in order not to fail which really is unfair I think. When I was a kid I had great attendance and was an honors student until 7th grade, I missed 42 days, but this was years ago before the states gave tons of aid for kids attending school. I don't think it matters how many days a kid misses as long as they are not failing and do the work. Your son had a medical reason for missing school, get a ...(Answered by Tina)

If it's a big enough issue that you absolutely positively can't handle it mentally, then you can get permission to miss the class. Tell your parents your issues and if they agree that you are fine without P.E. class, have them contact the school. There are alternative classes that fulfill the requirement of P.E. for children who are mentally and physically disabled.... taking written tests about muscles and bones and other physical education that doesn't include running around and undressing in front of people. If your parents can't do that, then I'm afraid you'll have to resort to a ...(Answered by hp_resource)

If you like school so much, why have you been taking it for granted. Education is going to get you far in life one day. Try to go back and do good this time. Do not worry about how bad you did, you can not fix what is allready done, but you can learn from it and not do it again. I was a drop out at 16 10th grade and after 7 years of being out of school and married with 2 kids I decided to go back. I got my GED and and attended college, I am now working ...(Answered by Elizabeth E)

Does a school district lose money when a child misses school?
My cousin got a letter saying her son had a few unexcused abcenses back in September and they are taking her to court. Why did they wait so long to tell her? She took the child to the Dr and got a note for it but the child never turned it in. Her son is 14 years old. Now it has gone to court. It's not llike he was out playing hooky, he was sick and saw a Dr for it. It seems like everything is about money now. ... (Asked by Leo S)

i never heard of taking someone to court for missing school. i do know that a parent can get in trouble for never sending their kids to school but that is when they never ever go. not just for a few unexcused absences. all that should do is reduce the grade enough to flunk them. and yes the school does get their amount of money based on attendance....(Answered by fojimo)

it depends: what is the school's policy for missed days in a semester? has all of the absences been cleared/excused by you/another parent? has the school warned you? if you are worried, get in contact with your son's school and ask to speak to whoever is in charge of attendance. speaking from a truancy citation myself, it took me two unexcused days of absence, plus a warning before i ended up with a ticket for it....(Answered by Lindsey M)
