My nephew was in a special ed class and he is now in college studying to be a marine biologist. Special ed does not mean that they will not make anything of themselves. Q.
Where is our best source of behavioral intervention strategies for an autistic child who wants to hit mom/dad?

Being consistent with what you do is very important. I would talk to his teacher and find out what intervention they are using at school. If it is working there, your best bet might be to do what they are doing. If he already understands that intervention he would likely quickly adjust to having the same rules apply at home. Catching him being good is the best way to increase the behaviors you do want. Praise him for "gentle touching" of mom/dad. If you see him almost hit but think twice, tell him how proud you ...(Answered by mblederma)

Stop talking to doctors!!! Have you talked to the teachers??? They see your kid more than any doctor, talk to them, and see what they think would be most appropriate for your child. Beware of over medicating and over diagnosing. You don't want to do real damage, and I seriously believe that somebody has be throwing around some flakey theories as to what's wrong with your kid. Just use common sense, what are the odds that he's really this ill? How is that possible, does he genuinely seem ill, or is he just a normal kid who likes to run ...(Answered by catmcbrat)

Your local community college will have classes to help you. You CAN get your G.E.D. and then go on to try college classes. New jobs, that pay more, will open up to you, if you get your G.E.D. The community college has many students like you, who have had difficulty with learning, and now want to go on to get a better life. They will have basic classes for you, tutors, and other people who can help you....(Answered by spedusource)

I am a teacher of higher education, but from what I understand about the learning habits of little kids is that they can vary greatly. If she is about six, and she is struggling with remembering how to spell words, this might indicate that her learning style is different (and she hasn't gotten in the groove yet as far as performing well on tests, etc). I think the worst problem is that SHE feels so badly about. This may be contributing to her continued difficulties--sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy for her. She is a little kid--there ...(Answered by Sophist <retorik75>)

A.
Try myspacelayouts.org (not .com). They have a whole ton of different layouts. If you can't find one on there, find pictures of Austism-related images and use a layout generator (like Tom's MySpace Editor V3.5) and you can set the background and text colors. You can find it here: http://www.strikefile.com/myspace/reborn_3_5.htm You can make an Autism-themed Contact Box as well with a contact box generator like this one: http://mygen.co.uk/index.php?page=generators§ion=commentbox Just find another Autism-theme picture to use as a background and you can then edit the text colors and font. You can also use the same site to edit your "Extended Network Banner" and more! If ...(Answered by chica_zarca)
