When did the term "multitasking" first come into use (for humans)? I understand the origin of the word "multitasking" comes from computer processors. However 1)when did the term first come into common usage to describe human work and 2)who is credited with popularizing it or first using it? Some things I may know: -I heard a rumor that Oprah is credited for making it famous. Is there anything to back this up? -There was an article in Fast Company magazine in Spetember 2001 tasking about how to become a master multitasker, so it had to be in use for quite a while prior to that. ... another word or phrase to describe multitasking or consolidating? i am trying to think of a phrase we would use in the restaurant business to describe doing more than 2 things at once. Basically this phrase is restaurant jargon, like anticipating guests needs, but this phrase describes multitasking. Particulary a phrase that describes doing more than 2 things at once. this is restaurant jargon to explain to a server for example, to grab the check for one table at the same time you grab a drink refill for another table. ...
