A.
An "odyssey" is a journey. The word comes from the ancient Greek. It was first used to describe the journey of Odysseus in Homer's book "The Odyssey" In this paragraph the writer is obviously about to describe how getting a haircut in Japan is like a microcosm of the economy. How your hair is cut, the attitude of the staff, concern for detail, equipment used, processes involved, etc. demonstrates the same attention to detail which has been so successfully applied in Japanese industry....(Answered by jaipurjohn)

Q.
What page is this Odyssey quote on? (Homer translation please)?
Dreams surely are difficult, confusing, and not everything in them is brought to pass for mankind. For fleeting dreams have two gates: one is fashioned of horn and one of ivory. Those which pass through the one of sawn ivory are deceptive, bringing tidings which come to nought, but those which issue from the one of polished horn bring true results when a mortal sees them ... A.
O.K. by tradition, Homer, the blind poet of ancient Greece is the author of the Odyssey (there is no Homer translation.) As the first answerer pointed out the page number will be different for every edition (even of the same translation.) The Odyssey is traditionally divided into "books" with line numbers. The quote your are interested in is in book 19 (the Return of Odysseus.) Line number will vary, depending on the translator (the Lattimore translation is standard in the U.S.) You can find your quote on line 560 in the e-version: http://www.mala.bc.ca/~johnstoi/homer/odyssey19.htm I hope this helps....(Answered by Mr. Knowitall)
