| Yes - but the result would be real nonsense. 'English has been being learned by me since 8 o'clock'. (Repeat, this is GARBAGE). The pasive voice is useful when we don't know (or it's obvious) who the agent was. E.g. My car was stolen at about 8 o'clock. (I don't know who did it). 'The house still hadn't been completed by January'. (It's obviously the builders)....(Answered by Pipsqueak) | |

| Cloze exercises are helpful. Using stem sentences are helpful. Transposing from active voice to passive voice is helpful. Make it into a game where they pair up and write a story in active voice, then swap with another pair and change it into passive. Play a class race-game where they score points, make it into a board game, get them to act it out, set it to music.... There is never just one 'best' way if you want to take different learning styles into account....(Answered by mel) | |

| the first answer is correct. in general, the passive is used in newpapers, by newsanchors, and scientific journals. some people confuse it with a "tense" when it is not, and others say the passive is nearly dead in the english language, simply because we rarely speak this way, and writing has become more and more casual through the use of email, text, etc......(Answered by weechi) | |
