If you payed her tuition in 2006 then you can definitely deduct it. But she can't use that same deduction if you do. She can still claim herself though (minus the 3600)....(Answered by Nikki S)

Depending on the year(s) you did not file taxes as an adult (over 18) you may not have needed to file taxes. Check with the IRS to find out if you were required to file during that time. It looks like in 2005, if you earned less than $5000, you would not have been required to file. You may find it very much worth your while to contact a tax account to help you sort through this. I don't understand why you have got to pay this money. Are you an indentureded apprentice? If so the company that you work for should pay you! You are LEGALLY obligied to continuine supporting your son while he is under 18 and in Education regardless of how much your ex-wife earns. I expect one of the terms of your Divorce is that you continue financially supporting your son while he is in Education. I know you are mad at your ex-wife, but why should your son continue to suffer because of rows between the two of you....(Answered by k)

I think we'll need a lot more information than that. If they have underpaid you and it is their fault then they must cough it up. If it is due to an error that you put on the form then they will not pay up. Unfortunately, the tax credit system is appalling and nearly everyone I know has been búggered by it. If you have not consolidated your student loans, it is possible to apply for loan forgiveness otherwise you are stuck repaying the student loans. The federal government does have a program to repay student loans for nurses in rural areas of the country. Take up the matter with ur Principal / HOD / Admin., Officer / Secretary with the proof of your being Category 1 Student and the receipt for the fee paid. Mostly it would not be a problem to get back the refund. Take the matter to the College students union if nothing works out....(Answered by skr)
