Am I going to be the only one who is working on assignments during Spring Break next week?
I thought spring break was for partying in Cancun or Flordia. I have so many paper assignments and readings to do, I'm probably going to be working more hours on school work than I would during the school week. Why can't Profs realize that the word BREAK is in Spring Break? ... (Asked by Some Chick)

Q.
Can I plagiarize in an exam?
If I am asked to explain something in an exam and I write down almost the exact wording that I memorized from my readings or reviewers, would that be plagiarism? If, for example, I am asked to explain a theory, may I use the words that I memorized as a definition of the theory? I'm not saying it's my theory. I'm merely defining it based on what I was able to study. ... (Asked by phalangi)

Being asked to define something that you learned is not plagiarism. You are being tested on the whether or not you have learned what is in your books. An ability to recall the information is not plagiarism....(Answered by beckini)

Q.
Should I use quotes from the readings? Or just mention them?
Does the question make sense? For my class I had to read a book and so many chapters (about the Progressive Era). She wants us to "relate" them to our essay in which we are to compare industrialization throughout this time period. Should I use quotes from the readings? Or just mention them? ... If the author has a particular way of saying something you couldn't paraphrase or make better, then yes, use a quote. Also, quote if you are refuting something in the book: "In "The Progressive Era: Look Where We Are Now!," M. Smartypants expresses the opinion that "Quotes are for sissies, and since everyone quotes Abraham Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln was a sissy too." (p. 23) This assessment is incorrect because Mr. Lincoln was not using the quotes himself; he was merely being quoted by others. This is a ...(Answered by theycallmewendy)

Next class, we will discuss the readings that were due today, the readings that are due next week, and chapters 4 & 5, so be prepared! Am I the only one ... (Asked by Melody)

Dear Candy, Set for yourself an O.H.I.O. policy - only handle it once. Also, set some time each day, the same time preferably, to go to a study place and study. Don't take your laptop if you have one, maybe an IPod if you don't fiddle with it too much - basically, set aside time dedicated solely to studying. Also, when you do get distracted, make a list of what has distracted you, and if it's one or a class of things that gets you, try and avoid it. If its your own thoughts, keep a notepad and jot them down to ...(Answered by classical123)

As the holder of three university degrees, I speak from my own experience. Yes, I read all of the assigned reading. If you want to get the best grade possible and learn as much as you are able to learn, then you will read the assigned texts. It can be difficult. In history, undergraduate, I had to read a chapter a day, that was about 25 large pages of small print. It put me asleep faster than any other text but I got through it. In law school I had to read about 1000 ...(Answered by rac)

Dear Professor Blah Blah, You may remember me from your BLAH BLAH class several years ago. You may not realize this, but your class was one of the best I ever took--and your research inspires my own to this day. I am now enrolled in a doctoral program, and I would love to see a recent copy of your syllabus so that I can familiarize myself with anything you believe is relevant in the subject. Thanks again. Physics: Optics> Lenses!!!?
When we plot 1/image distance vs 1/object distance (a series of readings from various lens), is the resulting graph a curve? If so how do we estimate a value of the focal length of the lens? What does the resulting slope of the curve imply? If any of you know uncertainities how do we calculate inverse of uncertainties for object distance (+/- 2mm) image distance (+/- 10mm)? If I have a really tough subject, this is what I do: Read the entire reading assignment once. If it's a science or math course, do the assigned problems (and some unassigned ones, if available). Go to class and take notes. I make sure to pay extra attention to what was covered in class as, invariably, that is what is most likely to be on an exam. Another thing I do is that I take my scribbly, hand-written notes plus any handouts the prof gave and I make study sheets right before a midterm or final. ...(Answered by eqmidnite)
