| its is fascinating to know that there is another parent who has an exceptionally intelligent two-year old child. i have had the opportunity to be able to place her in a child-care facility that attends to the needs of smart toddlers. the best advice i can share with you is to continue to nurture that desire to learn and be faced with new things. remember that young children are always learning even when we are not teaching them. always show interest in her learning and by far, please find a facility that will help your childs academic achievement....(Answered by oneofhawksfinest) | |

What to teach a 2yr. old? My 2 yr.old is too much stubborn. She has learnt to speak a couple of alphaphabet, though doesn't recognise them as letters. Also counts one to ten. But it is difficult to teach her all these. She only learns by watching children's programmes and according to her own will only. Is it natural or should we start a regular teaching period for, say, 1 or 2 hour a day. What are the things she should learn now.?she doesn't go to preschool, so how to ... | I am the mother of a 2 year old, have studied early childhood edcuation and teach preschool! It sounds like you have a normal 2 year old on your hands. Generally 2 year olds learn from others around them, how to speak, how to play, how to behave, how to eat, put on clothes, etc. Most of their energy is focused on these things as well as activity and movement and practicing what the see and hear around them. Generally 2 year olds are stuborn and moody because they have a hard time expressing themselves. Right now, ...(Answered by Beth in Tokyo)

Can anyone reccomend a good website for learning to count? My son is learning to count and recognise numbers. I have found excellent websites for learning to read, but have drawn a blank for sites which tackle this early stage of maths. There are plenty for slightly later on. Any suggestions? | Work with him in person. Don't rely on web sites to teach him to count or read. Using your hands is better, IMHO, than anything else. You can do basic math (up to 5+5) with him. Plus, being involved personally with his education is going to be the best gift you could give him. :-)...(Answered by Brandon W)

My son with autism (i think). He hate school..? He is 5 next year. We spied on him (with teachers permission) and we can see that he is bored with ABC and colouring. And this gives the teacher headache cos he'll run out of the classroom whenever he heard something interesting. By 3+ he can spelled many words and recognise numbers to thousands and doing simple maths by 4. One teacher even hint that remain in 4yo class might suit him well cos there's a teacher there who can 'control' him. Imagine after 2 years there they still expect him to learn ABC and counting to ten. He has ... (Asked by Confused) |

| I am sorry to hear that there is no special class for children with autism in your country. Since you mentioned that there is a teacher that can "control" him, maybe it would be an option for him to stay in her class as they have suggested but instead of doing the same work as that class if he is not on their grade level, perhaps the teacher could let him do work that he is able to do. By doing it this way, your son may stay on task better and enjoy school. I believe he is getting bored....(Answered by LYNN W) | |

| Children will learn to read when they are developmentally ready. This varies from child to child. Some children are not ready until about 7-8 years old. It is not common for very young children to read. I am a Master Reading teacher with a masters degree in early childhood/elementary education. Please continue to encourage your child to "Play" with language and reading. Reading street signs, cereal boxes, helping to read directions, etc. There are many games you can play with her and I am sure you already know many of them. Also ...(Answered by doodlebug) | |

Is reading program for 2 to 3 year old, good or bad ? Hello parents, I sent my daughter for reading program, Vital Years since she was 2. It has been a year now. Though she read but the progress is very slow and she can't read the simple books. I wonder whether she has to know her ABCs first, learn to spell and finally learn to read. I taught her ABCs by myself and she recognise them but can't spell yet. ... (Asked by kidzpuzzle.com) |

| At that age, they should only be developmentally doing reading readiness. That is, they can learn how to hold a book corrently, turn pages, describe the pictures, follow the text in the correct order. They could possibly (around 3 years old) learn the letters, and recognize which letters by looks. If your daughters knows these things, she will come into kindergarten ahead of many of her peers. Spelling comes after reading usually. Most kindergartners spell phonetically, meaning they spell it like it sounds. They need to read before they know how words look. Just keep working ...(Answered by tabs8) | |
