Q.
Math question involving rectangular solids?
Is there a way to figure out the height of a rectangular solid when the length and width are given? Such a method would make it much easier to solve for the diagonal of a rectangular solid... Oops, the height was given. The square root of 3 (W) squared + 4 (L) squared + 5 (H) squared = the square root of 50 = 5 root 2! Thanks anyhow folks. One can argue that good deeds make good people. ... (Asked by juniperolocke1)

Well, if you only know two edges, it will be fairly difficult... no wait, impossible. Is there any other information that you might have missed? If one face (that does not include both of the edges already given) were square or you knew the area of such a rectangular face, that would give you the third edge. If you knew the volume, you could determine the height. Is there information in the previous question that carries over to this one? My best advice is to reread the question carefully. Then, if you are positive ...(Answered by volleyjacket)

The perimeter is twice the length plus twice the width. Since the width is L/2, p = 2L + 2w p = 2L + 2(L/2) = 3L So 3L = 72 L = 72/3 = 24 inches...(Answered by Diane M)

The volume of the tank is 40 x 30 x 15 = 18000 cubic centimeters, which is the same as 18000 milliliters (mL). 12 Liters = 12000 milliliters, so it will take 18000/12000 = 1.5 minutes. I am a high school math teacher....(Answered by Speedy)

It helps if you draw a picture to go with this explanation. Your field is 500x300, and inside the field you have a smaller field. The distance between the borders of the fields is x. It almost looks like matting a picture. The area of the smaller field is going to be 100,000 sq ft. Area of a rectangle is found by multiplying length and width. The width of the smaller field is 300-2x - this is because there is a width x on both sides of the field that needs to be subtracted. Likewie ...(Answered by igorotboy)
