I wouldn't beabsolutely sure... You have Le Chêne et le roseau (Jean de La Fontaine). The Reed is the weak but he's in fact stronger than the oak because he can bow without breaking. The oak, so noble, so strong, can be eradicated by the wind. The allusion to an oppressed race is a bit wild....(Answered by boule de gomme)

Answering this Q. requires one to be facile with some pretty high order mathematics (higher than what I'm able to relate to). But still, I went looking for an answer by doing a Google search for: DECODE +"REED SOLOMON CODES". Lo and behold...I got 128,000 hits! (see link to the Google search below). There are numerous examples of academic papers, instructional guides and algorithms showing how to code and decode. So I'm perplexed...if you are comfortable with this level of mathematics, why couldn't you do a Google search? In any event, I hope I've helped in some way....(Answered by idlebud)

Q.
Reed College requirements?
Not really "requirements," but I lacked a better word. Anyway. I know there aren't really set GPA's one has to get for most colleges, but I was wondering what is usual/recommended for Reed (Portland, Oregon.) And maybe SAT scores too. That sort of stuff would be helpful to know. Thanks in advance. ... (Asked by Riyaa)

Average GPA: 3.90 Average SAT: 1352 Average ACT: 30 The average SAT was taken from the old test, in which 1600 was the top score. So you could approximate what the average score will be this year by dividing 1352 by 2, and multiplying that by 3. Estimate: average SAT 2028 Having said that, Reed admissions are not always "by the numbers." They really go out of their way to find students with both the ability and the drive to succeed there. I recommend checking out the discussion board on http://www.collegeconfidential.com Those boards will be ...(Answered by Professor X)

Q.
Does anybody have any insight about any of these colleges or my general situation? ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!?
I'm a high school junior with some lofty ambitions involving political science, international relations, and philosophy and I am trying to decide where to apply. Right now, I've narrowed my choices to the following: NYU, Boston University, Macalester College, Dickinson College, Middlebury College, Eugene Lang College, and Reed College. I have a 3.8 GPA and I'm in the top 14% of my class. I plan to get back into the top ten percent by application time. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has attended or been involved with any of the colleges I ... (Asked by ofrobotics)

Generally speaking, college is what you make of it. After having attended and graduating from a business school, I wholeheartedly recommend a more "full-fledged" college/university for the variety of majors available. You seem to be quite ambitious, and that's a good thing! Maintain that attitude! Now, just being in college will require discipline because it's not just a place to go party - sure, you'll want to socialize once in a while, but you're there as a student *first.* Taking an occasional break from your studies is fine, though, and you'll want to be able to network once you've graduated since ...(Answered by wheezer_april_4th_1966)

A.
Great school! I think one of the best things about Reed is the attitude of the students and professors towards education. We're not here for the diploma, but rather the education that goes with it. From what I saw visting schools last year, that's fairly unusual. We don't see our grades unless we ask (we still get plenty of feedback, though), so there's no competition around grades. Also, since there's no graduate school, we're not completing with grad students for the attention of our professors. After every paper we turn in for hum 110 ...(Answered by EmilyRose)
