| For a public school Prek - child must be 3 by a certain date (usually October 31st) and also must be potty trained. There is NO need to know letters, numbers and concepts as these will be taught in a 3 year old curriculum. Private school/daycare may not require potty training, and may require you to send in a backpack, crayons, change of clothes etc....(Answered by Love2teach) | |

| Most pre-K programs are limited as to how many students that they can take, so they are usually tested to see their ability and the program usually takes only those who will benefit the most from the program....(Answered by whatelks67) | |

| i would think it would depend on where you live and the state regulations for your state. for new york state, my son is 5 yrs old and was in a pre-k class when he was 3 yrs old and graduated from that in june 2006. since he wasn't old enough to go to kindergarten last year as he was 4 and wouldn't turn 5 until february and the cut off is december to turn 5 while in kindergarten, they let him stay in pre-k another year and he's going to kindergarten in september 2006....(Answered by wilderone74) | |
