| Alouette "Alouette" is also a: user (thing) by tWD (14.6 hr) (print) ? 2 C!s Wed Dec 10 2003 at 22:49:59 A-louet-te! Gentille alouette! A-louet-te! Je te plumerai! Recognize it already, don't you? If not, bear with me, because if you've ever been one of a large group of children in the care of an adult and never sung this song, you are (I assure you) in a small, unfortunate minority. Once a French-Canadian fur-traders' canoe-paddling ditty, Alouette has for generations been a favourite of classrooms and Scout camps the non-Francophone world over. Hardly surprising, as it has all ...(Answered by Love child) | |

| Many of these rhymes don't mean anything. What they are made for in the first place is to teach young children the art of rhythm. Once your child reaches school age, maybe grade 2 he/she will enjoy something that will make some sort of sence. Why not try it on your child now, he/she just might enjoy it. West wind, blow from your prairie nest Blow from the mountains, blow from the west. The sail is idle, the sailor too; O! wind of the west, we wait for you. Blow, blow! I have wooed you so, But never a favour you bestow. You rock your cradle the hills between, But ...(Answered by LVieau) | |

Nursery rhyme - "down by the river where the green grass grows..." Do you know of any other variations? I first heard this rhyme while watching one of the episodes in series five (2003) of "Cold Feet", a Granada Television production in the UK. It occured when Adam Williams (James Nesbitt) takes his baby son Matthew to a parent and baby singing circle. The words (as I remember them) are as follows: Down by the river where the green grass grows, there sits XXX washing his clothes, he sings, he sings, a song so sweet, crying to his playmates up and down the street. The song seemed to be intended for group singing; the same verse being sung repeatedly around the group ... (Asked by b_nicholson.geo) |
