| Easy really - all things that are dangerous and valuable, move out of the way, giving them plenty of space to play. Keep everything easily accessible and clearly labelled. Everyday routines can incorporate loads of learning - singing songs, counting items when shopping, in the car etc. Just generally talk about the world around you. As for equipment, kids love anything from puzzles to an empty box to pots and pans!!...(Answered by sian p) | |

| Children like to know where they stand as it were and so when things are done in a routine format, children learn to sequence. This develops their social skills and helps them deal with sharing, turn taking etc. Children relate better to social situations when they know what is going to happen next, i.e arrive at school, take off coat, greet teacher, say goodbye to parent, sit at desk or go to play area, break time and so on. These routines in turn help their writing/language skills as they go on further into primary school. If a child does ...(Answered by smileybabe) | |

What will happen in school with an intelligent child who has OCD (related to change of routines only)? He's not crazy or anything like that, very good manners, very playful, excited to learn, well behaved most of the time, very smart (according to preschool teachers too, not just his parents.) Autism runs in his family, but so does giftedness and talentedness (in some subjects more than others.) The family is taking him to see a doctor next week, at his teacher's request, but hopes he will not be given a "label" that negatively affects him, as he is a better student than one of their older children who has yet to be considered as having an ... | I doubt you are going to devine an answer to such a complicated issue on this or any forum. First of all no one can predict the future. Secondly the child apparently hasn't yet been diagnosed completely. Instead of fishing around for answers that no one can possibly provide, offer your complete support to the family both the parents and children there in. These questions serve no good purpose and as I mentioned aren't going to yield palpable answers....(Answered by Capt) | |

| Kids do very well with a given routine, and a child with ADHD should respond very well...my suggestion when creating the poster would be to let him help create it so that he can take ownership of the routine. I suggest something very simple, with pictures and words, and places for your son to put a check, X, sticker or happy face for "jobs" he has completed....for instance: Get dressed to shoes, make bed, brush hair and teeth, eat breakfast, gather school supplies would be my thoughts for before school...(if he is in school yet.) Depending on how severe his ADHD is, you ...(Answered by MacGillicuddy) | |

| Routines: They are varied by the will of the children... if your schedule is so rigid that children must be done with an activity at a certain time in order to move on to the next thing, and there is no flexibility in that time schedule, you are going on YOUR schedule, not the child's. Now, that is not to say that there is not a general schedule that you follow each day, but that you allow for flexibility within the schedule so that if you find an interesting bug outside, you can stay out and observe it for 10 ...(Answered by dolphin mama) | |
