What's on the Verbal Section of the SATs? Trying to help prepare a teen ahead of time. Need to know specifically what's on the verbal section. I understand they took out analogies. Did they take out vocabulary completely or is it in a different form? Any info you can provide on the reading comp and writing sections would also be welcome. Also, is there now a grammar section? Thank you. ... (Asked by Anna N) |

| There is a practice test at collegeboard.com As far as vocabulary, they tend to test that by giving a sentence with one or two blanks and then you have to choose the best word or combination of words to go in the blank(s). There are also some of the "read the passage, answer the questions" type of problems. There is some pretty detailed grammar on the test as well (I think it falls under the writing subscore along with the essay)....(Answered by DLM) | |

Does the unofficial marks of GMAT includes all the 3 sections or just the verbal or quantitative section ? I appeared for GMAT exam and scored 580. This is the unofficial score. The official will be available after 20 days. I am not sure if 580 inculdes marks from all the 3 sections, or its excluding the 1st section i.e the Analytical writing assessment. ... | The 580 only includes the multiple choice, BUT the final "combined" score doesn't include the essays either. You end up with four different scores, Verbal, Quantitative, Combined, and AWA, and it is VERY rare that the unofficial scores don't match the official scores for the first three. The AWA is only partially graded by computer, a human looks at it too....(Answered by Goddess of Grammar)

Why is the minimum score for the verbal and quantitative sections in gre 200? Hi all, Looking at the scoring ranges for the GRE verbal and quantitative sections, it says that the scores ranges from 200 - 800. | There's no real reason for it, except that the New Jersey company that publishes the GRE (as well as the SAT and National Merit exams) has always used those numbers. They are standard scores that aren't directly related to how many questions were answered correctly. My personal bet is that they didn't want people to be embarrassed by very low scores, so they made the floor 200. (By the way, it's not 200 for filling in the name, it's technically what any blank test would receive.) For a similar reason, ACT uses 1 as its minimum ...(Answered by dmb)

Just took my SAT test. I never knew that were was 10 sections? I thought 9? why did I take 4 math tests?HELP!? I took the SAT today and was shocked by taking 4 math test instead of 3 like in my princeton review study guide. But on one fo the particular math section was really hard, do you think that section was the statistical one or not necessarily. 2 sections of 18 question 1 section of 16 questions 1 section of 20 questions so do you think the statistical one is the one with 18 questions? since it appears twice. tell what you know about these thanks. ... Do colleges look at your SAT score as a whole, or only the specific sections pertaining to your major? I plan on majoring in journalism, and recently took a practice SAT to see how I stand thus far. I scored a lower score than the college of my choice wants in math, but I was high in both reading and writing. Do colleges care more about the SAT in general, or do they look at skills that will help me in journalism; reading and writing? Thank you in advance, and if this question is confusing, I'll field any questions. ... (Asked by Nick) |

| Hey I'm in the same position as you too.. The colleges are looking at the SAT score in general. Sometimes you don't have to choose a major until you get to the college (ex: NYU you can check undeclared), so they won't look at individual sections that much, but the whole test in general. But depending on what college you choose, some require SAT II subject tests in subjects like US history, French, Math, Literature, etc. So look into whether the college you want to go to is requiring SAT/ACT and/or SAT II subject tests. Good luck ^-^...(Answered by K) | |

| First of all, good for you for thinking about how to use your time and your tutor's time effectively. That you are already considering how to use your time effectively suggests that you are mature and thinking this way is a very good skill. A fair body of statistical evidence suggests that women do better on the verbal and writing sections of the SAT and can improve more on those sections. You may want to focus on those sections, but I would ask your tutor which areas he or she thinks you are the most likely to improve in. Also, ...(Answered by Clarke Gable) | |
